Baffling as there are obvious irregularities in the reef - swell lines split in two, the wave breaks ahead of itself down the line - and yet despite the imperfections, when the surfer finds the slot it becomes one of the best waves on Earth.

Doing a solid impression of Kirra - with the drop ins !
Was actually thinking about Kirra whilst watching that. Made me realise that on face value Kirra appears to be a superior wave………longer, just as hollow and more perfect.
Anyone surfed both on good days and can comment?
Yeah surfed both conditions tend to be very different NP swells rawer, more wind, pitching drop, not a lot of days most waves are makeable you always see guys paddling inside that didn't make it (that was generally me), more power and inside ones you have to take off under the lip most times.
With Kirra I always think of that big breasted perfectly looking blue eyed blond...
Having said that as a young bloke I would pick NP over Kirra just some thing about the place and those days crowds were down still only 6 guys sitting deep the other week none made it though any waves but then that's NP.
Totally get what you're saying. I'd pick the rawer, slightly less perfect reef also. Crowds are usually a factor for me.
Having surfed many waves as described above I can attest that the take off at 6-8' Kirra is just as harrowing despite the sand bottom. It is psycho.
Yeah not trying to take any thing away from Kirra Solitude been pitched and flogged there as well.
Seen some epic fu9kups at NP people taking the short cut rock hopping off the point miss timing or slipping on the Icey part to get blasted back over all the boulders bleeding every where boards smashed up.
One thing about NP these days without doubt I recon more young blokes surf it far better than in my day 70's / 80's.

Nah you would be fine lots of blow ins in the south west, plus crew from Bunbury / Mandurah / Perth and if your family name doesn't have a street in Margret's named after you you're an outsider (was a local joke) place has been over run by Van Lifers as well.

I’ll keep up hope.
Used to fantasise about living in MR or surrounds but from what I’m hearing it’s a bit done.
Certainly a bit more driving and time involved than the quick paddled outs we enjoy over east.

Love the way they sneak under the hood on that first section that doesn't even look like it will pitch. Beautiful understanding of the wave.
Can't believe people paddle in only to get burnt by drop-ins when it's that big and powerful !
