Watch: Late May at HTs

Stu Nettle (stunet)
Reels

24th May was a huge day at The Office with, among others, John McGroder (red board and hat), Bronson Meydi, and Maya Gabeira (5:00 min mark).

Brilliant filming by both David Biner (Indo Eye) and Spencer Whiting (Gimbal God).

Sick waves, wish we were there instead of cold tassie.

Island Bay Monday, 30 May 2022 at 08:30 am new

Good work, Dave!

The mother of all roll-ins, that place. (Along with Aileens.)

dandandan Monday, 30 May 2022 at 08:54 am new

Looks so tempting doesn't it?! I chatted to a dude post-big swell once, and he said he'd caught a huge roll in there and said: "best wave of my life and I will never do it again" haha.

joesydney Monday, 30 May 2022 at 09:38 am new

I kooked one on a big day and slipped my bottom turn and got sucked up and over the falls and detonated, board was obliterated, copped the next 4 on the head, tried to swim only to stuck in the rip so swam down to the next reef and beached myself on dry reef to vomit up the Indian Ocean……good times……

Bungan33 Monday, 30 May 2022 at 12:19 pm new

Nice story! We had it smoking once - touch under that size - but a few of those double ups came through and had you scratching for the channel. Old mate at 3:51 - I cant even imagine what he copped after that close out. Knowing that at some point you have to get across the surgeons table.....looks tasty but freakin hairy. I have absolute respect for the crew taking off late on those bombs.

Craig Monday, 30 May 2022 at 12:30 pm new

Heavy!!!

joesydney Monday, 30 May 2022 at 01:35 pm new

I should add that after I made it to the beach a little village kid came up with my board pieces asking if he could keep it ……. In between vomit and some tears I might have not been very polite…..that board is probably still in use and patched up and going strong

carpetman Monday, 30 May 2022 at 08:45 am new

That Maya wave is a bomb

joesydney Monday, 30 May 2022 at 08:45 am new

Magroder still ruling the office all these years later……

Island Bay Monday, 30 May 2022 at 09:01 am new

Bed red board and the hat? I thought that might be him.

joesydney Monday, 30 May 2022 at 09:08 am new

Yup

Island Bay Monday, 30 May 2022 at 09:40 am new

Imagine the waves and things that man has seen. Doris too.

joesydney Monday, 30 May 2022 at 10:04 am new

Crazy life ! Definitely recommend a trip on the Barrenjoey if anyone gets the chance.

Sprout Monday, 30 May 2022 at 11:35 am new

Crazy. Nias pumping too.

Dx3 Monday, 30 May 2022 at 11:49 am new

Awesome. Is that a claim gone wrong at 2min mark?

freeride76 Monday, 30 May 2022 at 12:55 pm new

Only been to HT's once.

it was dead flat. Not a ripple, not even a hint of a breaking wave.

With a light onshore wind on it.

Always spins me out seeing it like this.

stunet Monday, 30 May 2022 at 01:01 pm new

Arguably, it's an even bigger spin out when it's breaking and you take stock of which way you're facing.

Premium bathymetry.

Island Bay Monday, 30 May 2022 at 01:44 pm new

And to think that swell has to refract a full 180degs. It's a freak of nature that place.

AlfredWallace Monday, 30 May 2022 at 02:47 pm new

Stu. Am i correct by saying the swell partly bounces of the Sumatran mainland, as we know it likes a west offshore but the coast faces east, do remember when cruising the mid channel between both masses of land that you’d see currents going in all directions. Would be interested if you could shed more light on this topic. Thanks

tyzee63 Monday, 30 May 2022 at 02:24 pm new

I just came back from 9 days at Ht's, left the week before this day. The winds have been super funky this year and the name Ht's - Hopefully Tomorrow got thrown around a bit. Beautiful spot, though this years LaNina is making for lots of onshore days unfortunately.

Solitude Monday, 30 May 2022 at 08:45 pm new

You get the left good?

tyzee63 Monday, 30 May 2022 at 08:58 pm new

Only surfed it once, there were a couple good days I heard.

scoopmaster Monday, 30 May 2022 at 01:32 pm new

Best video of it I've seen by a long way - Usually the barrel looks almond shape and pinches on the exit.

monkeyboy Monday, 30 May 2022 at 02:29 pm new

Bloody hell. I've surfed that wave at 4ft and that freaked me out (surgeons table...)

AlfredWallace Monday, 30 May 2022 at 02:35 pm new

Had Lances Right primo 4-6ft with Scuzz’s boat Budyadahri twice in 2008 and again in 2010, its like no other wave youll ever surf again. The mind travels there often this time of year. Bravo to these boys.

quad fin kook Monday, 30 May 2022 at 03:18 pm new

Epic footage. Its called Lances Right! Not HT's. Can't name a wave twice.

goofyfoot Monday, 30 May 2022 at 07:57 pm new

Island Bay Tuesday, 31 May 2022 at 06:50 pm new

Talent, practise, discipline.

memlasurf Wednesday, 1 Jun 2022 at 10:54 am new

Gotta have the first and then follow with the other two. Never had any of the three so got a job.

oxrox Tuesday, 31 May 2022 at 08:23 pm new

Haven't surfed it but some waves look easy and then others look so heavy at that size.

Komodo Wednesday, 1 Jun 2022 at 03:45 pm new

Natural footers dream!
