Watch: Tim Bonython // Gweagal Country

It's hard to recall now, yet in the years 2017 to 2019 Cape Solander rarely broke. With surfers revved up from the 2016 Red Bull, which showed what was possible (survivable?) out there, the shelf went quiet.

Fast forward to the COVID years, also known as the la Nina years, and the Cape is breaking every other week.

Such is the frequency of it that it takes a special swell to capture our attention. Which is what happened two weekends back when the Saturday churned out waves that were, according to Max McGuigan, "borderline stupid", and it's hard to disagree - respectfully of course.

After the waves Max and Kipp rode on the Saturday, the Sunday is a little bit of a letdown, but the mood is lightened with Kipp dropping in on a lid.

Yes I must admit Tim’s shit bores me stupid. I’m loving all the raw stuff coming out lately.
