Watch: Desert Storm

Nothing to do with Webby's board model, just a sixty-second clip from the last big swell in the north-west, featuring five or so expertly ridden waves that leave you wanting more.

Clip by Scott Bauer, who must have more footage from this day stashed away.

Excuse my naivety, but what's with the blokes paddling out straight through that. A mistimed dash could have awful consequences.

Not sure what the guys do now but back in the day used to paddle out further south and punch through the side taking a few on the head.

At that size and conditions its a really difficult wave and a lot more grunt than the Bluff.

That’s terrifying

I was tempted to surf that day but I powered out. Needed bigger board and lungs. Did get a a few screamers days later tho. It has made my life a big worthwhile smile.

Jesus how was that second last wave, actually closed out. The paddle out looks like a right bitch with some serious water moving. Well out of most people's league but still more punters out there than I would have thought.

Is that Jake Perkins? (Lumos eldest son)...Looks like hes having good times since he moved to Carnarvon.

I’m glad you mentioned Lumo. He’s the best of the lot of them if you ask me, I grew up as a kid surfing and watching him. Never seen a better surfer in my life. Also a great bloke to be around - like the fresh air, a real work of nature!! Someone I’m glad I’ve met.
