Yeah, by now you know how la Nina is turning things on their heads, making it rain through the dry season, pump with swell through the low season.

This swell is the latest in a list of welcome surprises - and next week's swell will be welcomed the same.

This footage is from yesterday morning featuring Sheldon Simkus, Wade Carmichael, and Mikey Wright, amongst many others.

Last wave points to the reality of getting waves amongst the crowd. Some psycho waves in there though! That mikey wright backwash freefall was mental

That and the flog chucking his board at 17 seconds. Nice bookends to show the full Supler Bank experience.

It's funny how people who drop in don't like being dropped in on. The double board flick was a classic.

glamorizing this circus is akin to watching porn stars having sex, looks good but something the average man would never likely gain access too

Nick Bone Friday, 14 Oct 2022 at 12:06 pm new

Would you want to gain access to a porn star?

Snapper is the Annabelle Chong of the world’s surf spots.

It’s not a stretch to describe many crew out Snapper as desperate, grim faced fuckers , so the analogy holds up pretty well.

Haha

"Grim faced" that is so true for such crowded line ups. Can be a weird way to have "fun".

Touché, would have to be a thick wrapper

There is space in that zone for normal people, but its way down the line, not out the back at snapper. I really don't know how people cope with the rail to rail craziness of it.

Away from snapper and the points, the Goldie isn't too far different from other surf zones in the world. I'm a local and regularly surf my beachie with few people and mainly local guys I know. As you get older though you do start to dread the bigger point only swells.

Pretty average considering how good it can be. Mikey Wright getting hung up, bogging rails reflects the swell direction and wobbly sections. Just a bit off but still better than offshore slop of last days in Newy

memlasurf Friday, 14 Oct 2022 at 03:55 pm new

Yeah was no 17 second swell more like 6.

nicko74 Saturday, 15 Oct 2022 at 09:14 am new

Does the Gold Coast get swell periods in excess of 12 to 14 seconds?

lostdoggy Saturday, 15 Oct 2022 at 10:00 am new

Occasionally and they generally suck for most places with closeouts everywhere.

Knowing my luck... paddling out on such a glorious morning at Snappa, I'da sat up and thought "fuck this is alright"... then gone into some sort of sneezing attack just to get meself off to a good start.
