Watch: Autumn In Hossegor

The flat spells of summer have gone and the biting northerly winds haven't yet arrived, putting the Bay of Biscay in that Goldilocks zone otherwise known as autumn.

Surfers at Hossegor recently enjoyed a three-day run of waves. Here's the best of it.

Unbelievable waves. Surprised they ride such tiny boards in what looks very solid.

Good luck mate, you’ll get it. Will be starting to cool down!

My favourite type of waves. Hollow, clean, offshore, good banks.

Why is the sand so good there? Are there river mouths or what?

Island Bay Thursday, 17 Nov 2022 at 04:00 am new

The old rivermouth of the Adour river, before Napoleon diverted it south, so there's a big deep water canyon a'la Nazare.

Did anyone else notice the complete lack of scraping even at size?.

Epic !

I’m thinking of taking my family to France next year October/November. Maybe base camp it in Hossegor and explore some of Spain and the Basque Country from there. As far as wetsuits go I’m thinking 4/3 and 3/2 any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

3/2, especially if it stays as cool as this year, should be enough. Mid-november is when you start thinking 4/3. Enjoy !

Such epic banks, jealous

The vids are usually looking better than what it is for any average or advanced surfer. Moving peaks, rips and lots of Euro pros or semi-pros to hassle with. You have to drive in order the find the wave that suits you...
