Watch: On The Portuguese Coast

Two days back, Portugal's finest wave - no, it's not Nazare - put on a show for the assembled.

At times it's slightly reminiscent of a SW WA right, other times a NSW South Coast ledge, and then some waves are just unique to the reef.

The barrel riding ain't always stylish, but it mostly effective. The locals clearly know the wave and the many ways of getting under the hood.

Hats off to old mate who ditches his board at 1:42, and then repeats the process on the very next wave.

Nice work for the boogie boarder to pick up that board before it got destroyed on the rocks.

Nothing worse than snapping a leggy and seeing people walk past your board getting smashed on the rocks.

Dog, bailing is board in the path of that dude at 1.42 though.
From this angle could have easily pushed through with a duck dive and worst case sucked back over the falls, but at least would have kept the barrel path free.

Send him to the beach! Both waves looked like a duck dive would have done the job admirably.

Shouldn’t have been out there I suspect.

@Luca Guichard, ripping on the black board with fluoro yellow rails!

Nice one. Was trying to find out who that was (I suspected Mig Blanco).

I love high performance videos of the JJFs of the world - but I reckon watching a competent local read a lumpy, sectioning drainer and just flow with the wave is right up there with the same enjoyment.
JJF just makes you feel old. Watching those guys make some just want to spend more time in the water. Love it.

In most parts of Australia you would have to buy your board back from Crime Converters. I agree it's refreshing to see mostly locals having a dig, much more relatable.

Looks like a longer North Point without the ugly sections. Beaut wave!! Is it Coxos (or however you spell that)? I surfed it half that size in 92. Can't even remember now how to get there... I do know it is a short drive north of Ericeira.

Beautiful! Truely world class and such a good watch. Don’t think I can watch sunset now.

Great video to watch an half hour before sunrise with a nice offshore breezing and the swell overhead. Today may be fun with a capital F.
