An unofficial comp - no entry fees or coloured singlets, people surf exactly as they normally would - the Skeleton bay Shootout ran during the last swell, with the main prize going to the wave of the event, plus minor awards for effort and whatnot, all adjudicated by the onlookers.
It was also a dry-run for the concept.
"Now Now Media is planning a series of Shootouts based on the same idea at some of the most incredible waves around the world in 2024 and looking to bump up the prize money significantly. The prizes are a nice way to recognise who was charging but it’s not about the money. There’s always so much stoke when waves like this are firing and anybody who gets a good wave out there is a winner the end of the day. The Shootout is essentially a celebration of that."
Keen-eyed viewers will see Kiama's Aron Cox score a couple of gems.

Very windy coastline. Going on YouTube videos, I'd say it gets ridden more often by kitesurfers than surfers.
The bay behind it has long been a favourite flat water speed spot, and you can find plenty of clips of kites heading out the Donkey on tiny, unsurfable days.
