Watch: Jughead // Hellman and Firefighter
It's a few years ago now that The Surfer's Journal did a spread on Jughead Allport, however they've just decided to also do a short video to accompany it.
You know Jug as the Cenny Coast slab hunter and firey who won't die wondering. You'll see many more sequences of him ditching his board while thoroughly ensconced in the pitching lip rather than sensibly pulling back early. And then, every now and again he'll make one. The equation of safety may be out of whack for you and I but he's done it for twenty years so something is working.
Jug's story involves more than running the ragged edge in waves of consequence; he's had to arm himself against the forces that conspire to take down certain people, including his own brother.

Should never have lost his job as a firefighter. Disgusting the way that the government treated first responders.
Many good firefighters lost their jobs, along with lifeguards.

Quality little piece put together there. Jug seems like a good bloke.
Easy for videos to spruce things up about people, but there was some very foundational stuff in there from Jughead that can't be iced over - a good man, I'm sure. Very inspiring. On a side note, I had only ever seen him in photos like Shark Island and other big wave spots - always thought he was a Sydney man. I grew up at Norah Head, and just down the road was a legend. Kudos to you Jughead.
