Watch: Jai Glindeman // Glitch
While many freesurfers call themselves that after a failed tilt at comps, 19-year old Jai Glindeman is more of a purist - fella hasn't donned a coloured vest since 2020.
Surfing under the Bong umbrella, trips and clips will be standard fare for his career. Which isn't so bad for a kid who's surfing is easy on the eye. Think a mix of Curren's style, Trent Munro's power, and even Cheyne Horan's power squat. Could perhaps even mention Parko, especially considering the content of this clip.
In fact, I got myself so distracted wondering who he reminded me of that the clip slipped away. Had to rerun it.
Besides what we already knew, Glitch shows that Jai is building a heavy water act, and he's doing it without losing a skerrick of style.

I don’t generally think he looks that much like parko style wise (guessing he’s a fair bit shorter) but the section on the onshore point where he snaps his board he definitely had a fair crack at releasing his inner parko there.
Much more of a power squat than Parko ever had. Like Cheyne and Trent M, Jai's hips and knees stay bent at the same angle through his bottom turns. It's like an inverse of Occy's 'quiet arms' and it means no pumps and half-measures to make up for timing deficits.
Was waiting for that Parko board to snap - had to happen!
Love his surfing and style, and I think you're right about the Curren/Munro/Parko mix. Phew, almost feels sacrilegious to say that.

That board looks amazing. I was watching the swing on it, he looks like a 90's surfer with the extra length, except for the modern tweaks and refinements. When it snapped I was gutted. I had no sound on but figured the board must have been a feature so I went back and listened. Is this fella smaller than Parko? What are the dimensions?
Kids head doesn't move, hence the smooth style.
He looks a little chunkier than previous clips. Guess comes with maturity. Great surfer.
I think LOB and Ethan have just as smooth and more dynamic styles.
