On Saturday arvo, Kelly, Occy, Steph, Mick, and Parko - 5 world champs with 24 world titles between them - were sent out at Snapper for a legends heat, something the WSL hasn't done for a while.
Going by the number of entertaining moments: Occy dropping in on Parko, Steph's graceful glide, old "Swivel-hips" whipping his twinny, it's something the Woz might consider for future events.

is it just me or do mick's turns look sharper and faster than so many of the kids in this event? possibly better than anyone's? or am i just used to having seen them for years and am attracted to them for that reason?
I thought the same! I was watching it at the beach and it looked so sharp. I wasn't sure if it was just me being nostalgic :D

Agree @surfalot67, Occy is so unlikeable, that was a drop in, even when it was a "fun" session... the guy has serious issues i reckon. I've met him a few times, never has impressed me as a human. One day he'll get a deserved smack in the mouth.
Yep - probably the biggest dickhead I've ever encountered in the surf. An entitled prick with an overinflated opinion of himself - and dumb as a box of hammers. 100% he loves the taste of crayons.

Mick could have won any of the heats on day one. His roundhouse rebounds at 12 o clock were so good to watch and made Kelly's horizontal hits look pretty tired for mine
They all surf way better than the younger crew…. They are turning not riggling and bouncing
i thought they all looked good depending on your taste and certainly made a perfect finish for a good day of surfing but did show that the next rung up the ladder is a fair bit better than the plebs trying to reach that rung.

Mick showed he would be a red hot chance at Snapper for the CT next year, maybe moreso than Slater at Chopes/Cloudbreak. Give him a wildcard WSL!

Only heat I've seen of the comp so far. I went from Mr grumpy to Mr cool. Reckon Occy dropping in on Parko was staged and Fitted into the heat overall just nicely. HUGE seeing these legends surfing Snapper with the crowd 'kinda' out of the line up.

Did anyone ever try and listen to occ-cast. It was truely dreadful. Better he does not speak. Still a legend though.
Parko was on, what could've been the longest tube and if he delivered a trademark hack on exit, the best wave of the event.

Occy's drop in was a laugh in the context of the 'heat' and probs done for laughs ... but he's not making himself popular with his dropping in more generally - for a guy who was once known as everyone's favourite or the most-liked, most-popular etc. its a shame - cut it out occster. Tommy Carroll - same goes for you - hahaha
How good would it be if they hold that "heat" again one day and then for the whole heat, everyone just continuously drop's in on Occy.

The difference between this and precious legends heats was there were sent out in relatively good and fun waves plus they all still rip. Previous legends heats have seen them sent out in rubbish and/or rhe oldsr crew that are not as good to watch

No one likes getting dropped in on but some drop-ins are much worse than others.
[Snapper is such a joke these days that you may not even get a wave if you don't drop in.]
Occy must be around 60 years old so he has paid his fucking dues in the ocean.
Occy [with his kids] was also one of the few surfers i saw that joined the Reconciliation week- Walk on Country at Kingscliff last year so he's not as bad as you all make out.
I've surfed with him heaps at Dbah and I've never seen him drop in on anyone out there.
I'm not a fanboy of Occy, just someone prepared to tell the other side of the story.

Can't just keep doing the same thing over and over, especially at the same event.
Here's an idea: Have the odd legends heat but make 'em ride a board from their heyday. So Occ on a boxy-railed Rusty, Rab on a Gil Glover Hot Stuff, Slater on a banana, Parko on a bladey JS, Mick the same but DHD, and maybe let Steph surf the Kidman singley she rode so well in Spirit of Akasha.
Swap 'em up. Have some fun.
