Watch: J-Bay Classic Bonus Round // Highlights

With the J-Bay Open axed to make way for this year's Olympics, organisers were quick to find something to fill its place.

That something was the J-Bay Classic, a modern swing at an alternative comp with contestants riding various craft: twins, Thrusters etc. and competing, not for prizemoney, but the opportunity of scoring pumping Supers with one other surfers out.

The best day of the event was when the bonus round was run so similarly that's the best highlights package.

When it was all run and done the events was won by Sarah Baum - who supplied the homepage pull quote - i.e "I even had goosebumps on my head" - while known stylemaster Freddy Morais took the honours for the men.

Stephanie Gilmore has such smooth transitions from one turn to the next, a pleasure to watch.

I know just a highlights package but I was surprised at how below the current CT most of that surfing was. Almost took away from the spectacle that is roping supers waves.

That line about Kikas had me in stitches, that was a good one Stu.

Steph throwing caution to the wind with her yummy yellow board.

Despite being 7 years retired and riding what appeared to be a twinnie, the helicopter surf dad looked the best in that package.

PS - was that Wilko I spotted? Retirement suits him

Nice looking sled under Josh Kerr's feet there.

Great surfing I am surprised Mick Feb and Steph didn't get the nod as the stylelisimas.
