A recent storm blew up in the South Atlantic Ocean positioned so that it presented mobile South African surfers with a choice: J'Bay or Skeleton Bay?
Go right or go left?
Really, it's a win/win but the beauty in this video is the chronology and piecing together one swell at two places, back into one story. Simple, effective.
Special mention to Matt McGillivray's chop hop....yes his chop hop, midway through the wave at the 9:00 min mark. Biggest J'Bay in years, majestic wave, and he interrupts the transmission with something comnpletely unexpected.

Being goofy Skeleton for me, don't know if I could make the drop nowadays, but making just one would be good enough. Would prefer 28deg water temp thou.

i hate modern surf film editing. all these short clips of only a second or 2 from a wave, and it leaves me wishing i saw the whole wave. i know our childrens attention spans have been destroyed thanks to smart phones, but i still have mine. would love to just see each good wave from beginning to end. so frustrating.
J Bay all day. Love to get back there.
S-Bay looked shonky
It looked really hard once it was a decent size at J-Bay to get out must be a hell of a sweep and cop a pounding. Wonder what temp the water is? J-Bay being on the Indian Ocean would be warmer of the two, Skeleton would be around 13º (?) I would think.
You can get away with a decent 3/2 at J Bay.
Being a goofy footer skeleton bay always gets the juices flowing. But so does j bay! Anyone wanting to see footage of j bay being absolutely surfed to perfection (along with a bunch of other SA locations) check out Jordy Smith's new clip plus 27. How that guy has never won a world title is beyond me, always seems to surf at about 70% in his heats, wish he'd just let it all hang out.
Totally Tiges! Watched last night and that J-Bay footage at the end was sublime. Some of the most beautiful surfing I've ever seen out of there.
I live 30 mins from jbay and opted for Namibia. Glad I pulled the trigger. Not as perfect or heavy as previous years but just needs a solid west swell to groom the bank into perfection once more....waiting for one more banger before the season ends...
I'm left foot forward and would love to have a crack at J Bay.
I guess we all have no doubt that J Bay is one of the worlds greatest right handers.
But it seems obvious to me that Skeleton Bay is clearly the best wave in the entire world, bar none....[yet discovered and/or documented]!

A few years ago Koa Smith put out a reverse vid with Skeleton Bay looking like a righthander. It’s funny it should have an impact, but it really did get my regular foot juices going.
