Watch: Now Now Media // Kelp Town

As you may recall, we recently had a chat with big Will Bendix, who along with Alan van Gysen make up Now Now Media. We're unashamed fans of Will and Alan's work and that admiration has only deepened with the release of their latest li'l clip, Kelp Town.

Part of Now Now's appeal is how they avoid formula: each film is original in subject and style, and this continues in Kelp Town with its riff on David Attenborough's nature documentaries.

Handy sponsorship from FCS in this one, though I reckon local glassers deserve equal kudos for keeping fin plugs in place.

That was fun. Don't reckon a hold down in that kelp would be a barrel of laughs tho.

So much fun to watch that. I've never surfed in kelp like that. Gnarly to find yourself tangled up in that stuff

I got so snagged once in kelp after a wipeout I had to take my leggy off, get my breath back and then swim in after the set to get my board back. Wasn't a pleasant experience.

These boys are killing it. Another great lil clip. I’ll never look at kelp the same way though, it’s a wonder it hangs in there with that much swell pounding it..

Was a bit surprised surfing with a leggie....we have a spot in SA with kelp on the inside nowhere near as bad a that tho and it can be a nightmare trying to get out it sometimes if the leggie gets tangled up it in

Surfed some mid to NorCal spots with kelp and surprised how often didn't get snagged but the random tugs on leggy, board etc. freak you out every time - mixed with dark and cold water.

Interesting.

Surfed a left a few hours up the the west coast from this spot - it was small and you would catch your fins on kelp bottom turning on the inside runners.

Everyone seemed to have a great time regardless. But at one point paddling on the inside the kelp lifts me 3 inches above the draining water - just lying on my board flapping and unable to move in any direction and to wait until the next wave ran over the top of me - odd and thankfully funny given the modest conditions

good clip - thanks

Lived in CT a couple of times back in the 90’s.

The Kelp at some waves there is a nightmare but it does smooth out the wave face in an onshore and it’s pretty cool watching it disappear along the reef line while your surfing.

But getting caught in it on the inside after a big wipe out in 11’ water is not so Lekker……
