Watch: Gearoid McDaid // Roller Coaster

Reels

Gearoid McDaid recently came second in the European Championship, so the fella knows how stitch a heat together, yet he's more known for his heavy water carry on.

There's the odd beachbreak spin in this vid, a subtle nod to hi-fi ripping, but the lasting moments are those under the hood of Rileys and Mullaghmore.

Out of my league. So heavy

Mullaghmore is incomprehensible.

It's an incredible achievement to be able to keep a quite mind to navigate a big one to the end.

I'd be terrified.

This bloke was born in a 5/4 gloves booties and a hood. That’s what impresses me, has the fluidity of a seriously good surfer in boardies!

Seriously good waves.

Awesome. That drop to wipeout at the 2:40 odd mark is all-time for having a crack.
Wonder if he knows that the 'strayan translation of his name is "big angry bloke at the gym"?

absolutely unreal, made my morning, cheers. mighty nice feller, born in a 5/4, if there's a good left going, him and his mates are on it. He takes any wave seriously, 6' or 20'. But, hoooleeee.. absolutely agree, the footage of G'roid sitting critically in those yawping maws is INSANE.

Wow, that's some serious nuts in such cold water. Imagine this guy in the warm water waves of Hawaii and/or Indo.

Really cool edit and of course amazing cold water surfing.

Absolute cracker of a vid.

I dunno know why there’s not more of a fuss made of mullaghmore…

compared to jaws (maybe mavericks) which seems to be fairly widely acclaimed as the best quality, most challenging blah, blah XXL big wave mullies looks like a longer wider more incredible barrel.

Maybe it’s just coz it’s so freakin freezing and all the content makers would rather hang out in the tropics

He deserves a wild card for Chopes!
Those casual drops out of the lip he does are incredible, couldn't be deeper when he comes off the bottom.
