Watch: Tim Bonython // Deadmans Lurking

From Tim:

"Thirty minutes from my doorstep, in the heart of Sydney, just off Manly, lies one of the most unforgiving and jaw-dropping surf spots on the planet — Deadmans. It's a place where the ocean pushes in waves that have the power to both awe and destroy.

"Over the years, I've documented some of the biggest swells to ever hit Sydney's coastline, but this... this one is different. This is a wave that challenges everything you know about the ocean — where only the brave dare to ride and only the lucky get it right.

"As Richie Vass put it: 'The golden goose wave is out there.' The problem? Finding it. It's a needle in a haystack of giant walls of water, but when the period, direction, and winds all align, Deadmans transforms into a surreal big wave paradise for those who are willing to take on its challenge."

Usually the administrator would decree that comment as "this is a retired thread".

I enjoyed that, some great surfing and full martks for those that had a go as well.
Tim's use of slow-mo works well here I reckon. The choice of a lounge beats & sci-fi-ish soundtrack only adds to the weirdnesss and random nature of the waves.
Full marks to Sam Jones, Tom Myers my pick for best naturals, Winter Vincent shows his class...at times the hard way. Overall goofy Max Mcguigan takes to gong for his positioning & pig dog exploits. and how he sets himself up for one giant hammering at 14:12 mark. Well done to all.

I also dug the cafe jazz soundtrack. Welcome change from the EDM.

Max Mcguigan has Ours mastered. His wave at 7:07 here is the bomb.

Too much stalling from Richie. Gutsy stuff.

I didn't mind the sound track...thought it matched the chaos.
Sydneys's Shippies?
Looks like a bugger of a place to get organised.
Hats off!

What length boards are they riding? Don’t seem overly long? Step ups? 6’6?

Good to see Tim back on the horse, good footage. Some brutal beatings and great makes. Sam Jones seemed remarkably calm amidst the carnage. Great surfing. Sound off as always for Tim, let my tinnitus provide the backing track.

Impressive wave to be sure, and some ballsy surfing. The tunes worked for the footage. But I'm so old my first board was a balsa Velzy. Aloha from South Kona, HI

Impressive surfing. Liked the sound track.
TOO MUCH SLOW MO THO
I’m a bit over that aspect of Tim’s work.
It’s disservice to the surfing and surfers as you can’t see their speed and skill in real time.
