The Mighty J'Bay Pro forum thread
From Craig's forecast:
"A strong front moving through yesterday - which produced yesterday afternoon's pumping waves - should keep great 4-5ft surf hitting the point this morning, but a much stronger system passing under Jeffreys Bay today will generate a larger long-period SW swell that'll build into the afternoon.
We'll see sets pushing the 6ft+ range with strong offshore winds, easing back to a clean 6ft the next morning (Wednesday local time).
However, it'll only be a temporary easing trend before the next long-period groundswell builds through Thursday.
We'll see a pre-frontal fetch of severe-gale W/NW winds set up an active sea state for post-frontal storm-force SW winds to move over, generating a large powerful SW groundswell.
From this we should see Jeffreys building to a large, clean 6-8ft through the day, with the swell easing from 6ft but out of a more S/SW direction during Friday morning (local time).'
And the Rd 3 match-ups:
Heat 1: Adriano de Souza (BRA) vs. Joan Duru (FRA)
Heat 2: Gabriel Medina (BRA) vs. Bede Durbidge (AUS)
Heat 3: Owen Wright (AUS) vs. Ezekiel Lau (HAW)
Heat 4: Connor O’Leary (AUS) vs. Frederico Morais (PRT)
Heat 5: Mick Fanning (AUS) vs. Caio Ibelli (BRA)
Heat 6: John John Florence (HAW) vs. Jadson Andre (BRA)
Heat 7: Jordy Smith (ZAF) vs. Leonardo Fioravanti (ITA)
Heat 8: Filipe Toledo (BRA) vs. Kelly Slater (USA)
Heat 9: Julian Wilson (AUS) vs. Jeremy Flores (FRA)
Heat 10: Joel Parkinson (AUS) vs. Conner Coffin (USA)
Heat 11: Michel Bourez (PYF) vs. Italo Ferreira (BRA)
Heat 12: Matt Wilkinson (AUS) vs. Jack Freestone (AUS)
9//11 was a false flag operation.
Oh , you mean pro surfing conspiracy theories ?
Of that I've got nothing to add.
Except that to mention that I have definitive proof* establishing the truth that Connor Coffin's secret manoeuvre is actually a carving 360 off a forehand cutty such as the one Herro almost pulled in that old Oneill movie.
* By definitive proof I mean vague assumption.
It's on and it's relentless non-stop no gap set waves rolling down the point.
Anyone remember the old Derek Hynd quote about sets rolling down the point "like a fleet of Harrier jump jets flying in formation"?
That lineup makes me feel happy in my pants.
Don't remember the DH quote.
Though I do remember someone saying that the worst thing anyone could say to DH was : " Derek - you're normal ".
Jeez man, first exchange!
It's ADS and Joan Duru, would you even care if it was anywhere else?
Negative.
Still has that feel like the previews of upcoming flicks when you're at the movies. Fun enough but not what I'm here for.
Look at that morning !
Why the fuck would you ever be a tennis player / cricketer / anything but a surfer ?
Incredible waves.
The board ADS just paddled out on looked sweet.
WSL should have planshape / profile shots of the boards the crew are riding as well as all dimensions for slow points during heats . I couldn't image the shapers complaining about the advertising.
The undisputed best surfer in the world last Saturday night up against Bede.
On another note, I am very surprised to see that the World Surf League forces desktop users to download Flash to watch live events. No HTML5 fall back option.
This is in an age where Google stopped using Flash 8 months ago, Facebook moved to a non-Flash environment over 18 months ago, and even Adobe (who built Flash) have told people to stop using Flash.
So, I'm in the office with dual 23" monitors but having to watch J-Bay on my iPhone.
ARGH!

It's bigger, but i actually thought the first day waves were better in shape looks a bit more raw today barrels often not as perfect.
BTW. thats not a complaint, i think J-bay is easily one of the best comps on the WSL.
Look like hard work.
But well worth it ...
There was a moment there where Medina was alone out the point and these lines....these beautiful lines - were marching down on him . The pulled back shot showed him as a flyspeck positioning himself on this 100 m long wall....un fucking believable.
Personally , I'd be on a 6'6" or there abouts. Especially with this high tide making it wobbly.
Agreed on Owen. He's by far the best surfer in the world etc etc
I love that water angle. Imagine paddling out and just seeing those magnificent waves bearing down and taking one of those screamers. It would make your year I reckon.
I reckon the Parko/Connor heat is going to be a beauty.
Pretty funny the way they still dance around the whole shark deal.
Should have named it Voldemort.
Surf looks like it's backing off . Spewing. Maybe the tides peaked ?
Think that was Craig's call though ?
Yeah, easing through the morning and picking up through the arv.
Swell feels like it's losing its legs and the surfing intensity has gone with it.
JJF up next. Here's hoping he's on song.
He's almost always on song. He's in his own league when the waves are solid. Consistently throws buckets and makes barrels and you expect him to make everything.
This morning a few of the frontsiders were struggling to keep their rails set amongst all the speed and distance but there's JJF locked in like he's riding a Scalextric set.
Scalectrix !!
You honestly think he's as good as Medina ? (JOkes )
That snap under the lip was sublime.
Poor Jaddy, almost humiliating.
Nuts! and I mean that in a good way.
I don't think that could have been surfed any better. Awesome.
If you ever want to do direct comparisons with Currens famous first wave then now would be the time to do it.
Maybe a bit windier.
Epic wave Julian.
But least cool claim ever.
Not that I would have been any cooler.
If you were a judge you wouldn't give him a ten just because of the claim!
Insane barrel though.
The wave ain't kind to his style, eh?
Reckon the Brazo's have adjusted to the wave the best this year. At least the three Brazo frontsiders, ADS, Toledo, and Ibelli. Each was impressive.
I cant abide by that desperate plea for promotion.
No-one wins.
This should be a good heat. I reckon Connor is starting to live up to expectations.
Well I didn't jinx him that's for sure. Biggest board I've seen Parko on in a while?
Out of all of the incredible waves witnessed in the tour so far this year - all the sessions at all the venues - this would be the surf I personally would like to surf in the most.
How's the difference in styles between the guys that surf the whole wave and those that think surfing only happens when you're attacking the top of the wave .
Memories of Dane demolishing Parko at the 2010 Snapper comp in this heat.
Connor = Curren? If you squint they could be one and the same.
*Rosie, cool interview with Evie.
*Never work with animals or kids:)
Parko s getting older = more tired .
That paddle battle after the first wave would have depleted him a bit I reckon.
Longer board eases the pressure on the body.
Parko is a shadow of his former self back in his triple crown winning days, whereas Mick is just as good if not better than his title years, it's just that a few others have caught up.
We did it last comp and it worked OK, so here we are again with only a little bit of prompting from Zen.
We'll run forecasts and comp updates on the homepage but everything else, the banter, board talk, and inevitable conspircay theories can go in here.
