Judaism is a religion, but Jews as in the ancestor's of the Indigenous people of Israel and Judah are an ethnic group.
While not common and even controversial to some you can follow and practice Judaism without being Jewish as in indigenous to the land of Israel & Judah, and you can also be Jewish as in Indigenous to the land of Israel & Judah and not practice Judaism as in a religion.
We also know ethnicity doesn't vanish or change because you or your ancestors dont live where they are indigenous too.
This is pretty interesting from a military perspective.

People indigenous to Israel call themselves Jew's after Judah.
Israelis are people who live in Israel but not necessarily always Jewish by ancestry or even follow or practice Judaism for instance there is Israeli Christian's and id expect there is non religious non jewish people that live in Israel(moved for work and stayed etc) and call themselves Israeli.
Just like how people move to Australia and call themselves Australians but aren't indigenous to Australia, you can even be two things at once like my wife she's Indonesian but also an Aussie.
BTW. This narrative that Israel is swamped by Jews that are Jewish by practicing Judaism only and dont have Jewish DNA is pretty fanciful its not very common for people to convert to Judaism id expect it would mostly be through marriage.
And there is also only 15 to 20 million Jews in the world, and only 7 million live in Israel and i dont expect these days those living elsewhere are really that keen to move to a country where their neighbours all want to kill them.

Mate, we couldn’t even give constitutional recognition to Australian First Nations people. Yet there’s people on here that supported the No vote because of various reasons, one of those reasons in parts of our community being the fear of the possibility that land could be re distributed. Yet want to hark on about long lost sovereignty of Jewish people. Hence my rhetorical question of when Green Room was preparing to hand his land back to the North American First Nations people. It’s not going to happen in the US it’s not going to happen here. Why do we condone the slaughter of innocent people so it can happen in the ME?
