Surf Freight Issue
Seems a bit strange that the transport company would repair the damage? Are you sure it wasn't damaged prior to transport? As Udo said have you got a pic?
This sounds extremely weird, I couldn't imagine a transport company is going to repair your board if it's damaged in transit, they are just going to deliver it to you damaged and say it's not their problem as you must have not packaged it correctly, or tell you to claim it on insurance.
IMHO it's more likely it was sent like that.
Nah it definitely was the transport company, i spoke to them directly about it. The shaper organised the transport but it was kind of a loose arrangement as to who was ultimately responsible as I've since found out. I probably should have cheeked what the insurances etc were in place prior to proceeding. The board was bubble wrapped pretty good they just dropped it real hard on the swallow tail.
I've been refunded the cost of transport ($60.00) - I was offered more by the shaper but I just wanted enough to cover a proper repair. It looks like what the transport company did was just a suncure resin job on the roadside somewhere (even though they tried telling me it was a pro ding doctor job).
Just FYI they (SurfFreight) asked the shaper not to tell me about it in the first instance, hence why they repaired it, i assume as an attempt to cover it up. Probably wont be using them again that's for sure.
Not sure how to post photos.
Accidents happen eh.....but if the Tail [swallow tips] were wrapped properly with double or triple bubble wrap for the Transport
i doubt there would have been any Damage ?
Yeah absolutely they do
I think what got me is the dishonestly - firstly trying to cover it up (they didn't take into account the yellowing suncure job as a dead giveaway) and straight up lying about it being repaired properly with fibreglass.
They should have it repaired by a pro at their expense at the least...honesty is always the best policy ....get a bad rep and go broke.
Real bummer DW. I've had plenty of positive dealings with surf freight, it sounds out of character for them.
Maybe a bloke having a bad day who made a bad decision and then tried to lie his way out of it?
Hope you get it resolved .
Wow that is fully bizarre, can't believe they bothered to try to fix it.
Yeah I know. This is the first time I've got a board from somewhere further than I could pick up so I really wasn't sure what to expect.
I probably won't do it again tbh.
wow. i’ve used surf frieight in the past but wouldn’t again based on this. who is the shaper? the shaper organised the transport so the problem between the shaper and the transport is their problem not yours. you paid for a new board and should get one. as it stands this is complete bullshit if this is the full story
If the board is as bad as it sounds I would be sending it back (at their expense) and asking for a full refund or another board. You have some protection under Australian consumer law.
Was this a custom hand shaped board or custom dimensions on a bigger brand model?
Custom hand shaped board.
The damage isn’t really that bad tbh. It’s just the corner cracked off. Obviously I would have preferred it not to have any damage at all, but once its repaired professionally I think it should be fine.
I don’t really want to put any more energy into thinking about it anymore as I think I won’t get anywhere with it. So I’m just going to live with it.
Hopefully this has helped others to think about who they are using for transport and ask upfront who is ultimately responsible in the case of damage and what insurances are in place. That’s what I’ve learnt from this.
Cheers,
I have just recently used Surf Freight and it all went a bit pear shaped as well. But I believe it wasn't really surf freights fault but the driver who was working for them. I was waiting for a few days for a board to show up at a prearranged time/date and nothing.
Make a phone call and straight to message bank
I was nearly going to call the police as I'd already paid for everything.
Anyway I waited and received an email from the owner sitting that his driver had quit on the spot leaving a van full of boards parked up on the godly.
The owner had to fly back from his Indo holiday to try and sort out a right mess.
So considering the muppet of a driver no longer works for surf freight I'd definitely use them again as I think the dramas were more employee related rather than business related
That would explain a few things. Didn't know about the issue above until I read it on the forum
I got a couple of new boards shipped from Newcastle to WA by TNT a few years ago that simply never made it, just vanished off the face of the earth. Luckily the shaper had insured them so new ones were made and I eventually got them. Made me very wary of sending a board or item that might be harder to replace. Freight company didn't seem to bothered either
Hi All,
Edit:
Long story short, had a board dropped and its swallow tail cracked off in transport. It’s been repaired (without my knowledge) prior to pick up. Now I’m stuck with a custom board I paid premium $$ for and it feels more like I’ve got a second hand gumtree purchase.
Pretty pissed, anyone had something similar? How did the transport and or shaper deal with it?
