Hey guys,
Much as I appreciate the shout outs in your post-heat interviews and Instagram posts, it’s time to stop invoking My name and giving Me credit for your competitive success.
First of all, just like every other human that’s ever been on this planet, and any of the thousand or so religions that have been cooked up, you’ve got the whole God thing spectacularly wrong. Every version of Me you’ve dreamed up is pure speculation, every creed, book or scripture written merely a mirror of the time and place they’re written, and doesn’t stand up to any objective measure.

Don’t get me wrong, cocksure globetrotting wave-rider, there’s some top advice in those books, we’re all fans of the decency, love, and forgiveness parts of the Bible and the Quran etc, but there’s no secret, exclusive moral code contained within that can’t be practiced using your basic, garden-variety, secular common sense – treating others how you’d like them to treat you, etc. It’s not rocket science.
And, seriously, there’s some bollocks – supposedly the Word of Me – in these page turners that hasn’t aged well. Whoever wrote the books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy had some issues best sorted out with a psychologist, rather than turned into revenge porn. Just for the record, I NEVER told anyone to cut off unfaithful wives’ hands (Deuteronomy 25:11-12) or said I’d force parents to eat their own children as punishment for not listening to me (Leviticus 26:27-30).

Believe me when I say, well-to-do master of air and rail game, I told no-one anything of the sort. There are hundreds of such nonsenses I was supposed to have dictated to people over the 1500 years the Bible was cobbled together, but it was all imagined! Yarns repeated often and solemnly enough in a superstitious world to become real. (And yes I’m sticking to the Bible here, ’cos that’s the Supernatural Deity belief system you were born into.)
Look, there may WELL be a Me who conjures and weaves the universe into and out of existence, perhaps I simply AM existence, or the universe, but if there is such a Thing as Me, I bear bugger-all resemblance to any of your (quite frankly hilarious) personifications and imaginings so far.
But I get it, young Latino Firebrand with sticker-laden surfboard, much religious faith comes from perfectly understandable human traits, many of them very sweet. We love our family and friends, the grief we feel when they die is so sharp and painful that we wishful-think heaven into existence, so we can be consoled by imagining a heavenly reunion one day. And certainly, the idea of an afterlife makes it easier for us to contemplate that fearful day we too become a corpse. And so, smart cookies all through human history looking for power and social control have levered these two emotions – love and fear – into different versions of the same fantastic story – do the right thing and the reward of eternal life is yours, misbehave, or be born into a heathen society, and hellfire awaits. I won’t point out the resemblance that such a hell carries with the earthbound volcanic lava that inspired its imagining. And let’s not get started on the idiocy of different subsets of the same supposed faith turning on each other. (Could anything more sharply betray the human origins of religion? FFS)
I want to be clear, oh impressively lithe, bilingual athlete, I’m not against believing in things greater than yourself – in this broad respect, you’re very much on the money – and I’m actually very fond of you, despite your total self-absorption (and you Me-botherers certainly don’t have a monopoly on THAT little trait on tour).
So, for your sake and Mine, let’s stop for a moment and think, together, about what you’re actually saying when you give Me credit for, say, answering your prayers and sending you a heat-winning wave.
First of all. You’re fond of attesting to the power of prayer. It can produce miracles! Infinite Glory! Yes? Yes! You are also, presumably, not oblivious to all the messed-up crap out there. You’re aware of the 80 million people in the world right now who’ve been forced to flee their homes, 25 million of which are refugees. People trapped in lives of misery, boredom and danger, whose various prayers to various Gods (humbly asking just to be able to live at home or whatever) are seemingly not being answered as yours are. What are they doing wrong with this prayer malarkey that you seem to be doing so right? Has your virtuosity on a wave somehow magnified your virtue of prayer, and mysteriously unlocked a clear line of comms to the Divine?
You might argue that giving Me shout outs on Insta and post heat pressers is your way of demonstrating humility, but this is not the case, my tattooed, product-endorsing influencer friend, what it actually says is that you believe you deserve special favour. It makes you look like a Total Cock.
And it makes ME look like a Total Cock, too. Like I’m part of your competitive arsenal, some kind of secret weapon to unleash in clutch moments. To be prayed to as part of the pre-heat routine, acknowledged post-victory, briefly forgotten in a board-smashing post-defeat fury.
The best parts of religion and secular spiritualism are about getting over yourself. Serving others, humility. I won’t have My name attached to this myopic parade. So, stop it. Please.
Religion worked well when humanity was starting to ask questions and figure stuff out. It was understandable that gods were conjured to make sense of floods and famines, natural phenomena, locusts and loss. It was – and still can be – a good set of training wheels for decency and charity.
Dear talented, hardworking, fortunate athlete. You’re not at all a bad person. You’re great! You mean well, and of course you’re welcome to reach out to Me any time. But let’s keep those convos humble, and between us.

But if you look at the evidence and compare it with the monotheistic religions, judaism, Christianity and islam, who by the way all worship the same deity - the god of Abraham, there is overwhelming evidence to prove the non existence of your god.
I could write a thesis on the subject but will point out just some of the contradictions and falsehoods.
Let’s start at the beginning. Bible scholars based on the generational evidence in the book of Genesis have stated that the universe is circa 4,500 years old. Based on numerous proven scientific dating methods the universe is 14 billion years old.
It is obvious that god was created in the image of man, not man was created in the image of god. Just by reading the old testament I am appalled by the behaviour imposed on man by god. Human slavery, infanticide (child sacrifice), human sacrifice, animal sacrifice, genocide, sexual slavery, stoning to death of adulterous women, stoning to death of homosexuals - always men.
Even god himself gets in on the act of premeditated mass murder when he murders, by drowning, the entire human race except for Noah and his family.
There are numerous examples where the archeological evidence disproves the bible verses. For example, camels being in a certain area at a given time when the archeological evidence proves that incorrect. I could go on….and on.
The new testament isn’t much better. The birth of Jesus did not occur. They went to Bethlehem for Jesus’s birth during the reign of Herod - the only problem is according to Roman and Hebrew writings, Herod died 9 years before the birth of Jesus. So the killing of the children did not occur either. And another fact is that the census performed by the Romans for tax purposes did not happen until 5 years after the bibles birthdate of Jesus. Nothing is accurate - it was written 60 - 100 years after christ and there are no eye witnesses or corroborating evidence.
There is so much more I could say but I think I have made my point.
Oh, just one more thing brutus - I think you suffer from CPC (christian persecution complex) look it up. It’s when you think you are being victimised, persecuted, bullied or vilified by people when all they do is express a contrary view or opinion to you. This is instilled in christians by the teachings of Paul.
