I have all of those songs on my iPod except the cone heads and garden path.
Great memories. Actually taped Savages Cuts 2 onto an audio tape by aiming the cassette player at the telly , now I remember I used to do it a fair bit. Different times, but good times.
A lot of my music tastes came from surf vids. I was a surf vid tragic and loved it.

About 30 mins in Filthy Habits is Cheyne Horan ripping sunset.......anyone know who shaped his big wave boards way back then.....don't think its a mcoy a Tom Parish maybe ?

stunet Monday, 31 Mar 2014 at 08:51 am new

Willis Brothers shaped a few for him.

I also loved the Filthy Habits soundtrack. Watched the whole video yesterday just to hear it again. The footage of Occy is phenomenal - does anyone surf with that kind of flair and flow at the moment?

The Social Distortion song was called Prison Bound.

Ha ha I also did that, yeah back in that era it was a lot harder to discover good music, was living in NW Tassie in that era couldn't even get JJJ the only way we could get a taste of decent music was from surf vids and taping rage and spending the next day searchin for decent songs then ordering the actually albums in from record store.

Can't remember which vids but 2 of my favourites would be:
D.I.G. - 2 way dreamtime (Green Iguana?)
Radio Birdman - Hand of law
Both bands had plenty of airtime on surf vids.
Also liked hearing Even and The Fauves.
And of course the whole Morning of the Earth soundtrack. Several songs from it have made it into my band's set-lists over the years.

I loved the Billabong Surf into Summer vid. I think I played that till it was fuzzy. Not only for the surfing but there was some pretty cool tracks on it as well. Think I was introduced to TSOL through that.

That, in addition to the vids mentioned by the guys above.

Nothing beats Foo fighters everlong in Occumentary.... Still get chills when I hear/see Mark winning the title to that song.... One of the best comebacks in all sporting history.... ( can't find clip, but promo will spark some memories)

That one always reminds me of a young Jason buttonshaw, such a talented young grom.

Im not a huge fan of that So Cal punk bands can be a bit a same same if listening to a whole album but those Taylor steele movies in the 90,s , momentum, focus etc had some good songs on them, Bad Religion, Pennywise, Sprung monkey, No FX etc

Heres a link to a blog with all the tracks linked to ITunes. https://surfvideosoundtracks.blogspot.com.au

indo-dreaming Tuesday, 1 Apr 2014 at 04:27 pm new

Those surf vids from Chris Brystrom (Blazing boards, Freeze frame, son of the last surf movie etc) in the late 80,s early 90,s also had good soundtracks, bit more mainstream but still good, INXS, H & C, Painters and dockers, Hoodo Gurus etc

The narration in hindsight is kinda corny but always had heaps of good Aussie east coast point break footage.

Inspiration for today's WOTD caption. Jane's Addiction 'Mountain Song'

Still a great tune.

Hi Indo-dreaming, I am trying to locate that movie Son of the last surf movie. There was a song at the end on an animated clip where a surfer was on a massive wave and jumped onto the back of a bird at the end. Any idea what that was?

indo-dreaming Thursday, 31 Dec 2020 at 08:10 am new

Hi Michael

I did have that video and do recall that animation but i can't remember the song, you could always contact and ask Chris on his website though.

lostdoggy Thursday, 31 Dec 2020 at 08:38 am new

Indo, the website is run by his son Josh.
Chris died a fair while back.
Josh is a good surf photographer who’s had a few swellnet WOTDs I believe.

Thanks Indo!

indo-dreaming Thursday, 31 Dec 2020 at 04:51 pm new

Oh okay, that's right i did read somewhere he passed away maybe it was here.

No worries Michael

Other option is you can see the bands on the cover in this Ebay advert for the video, might be able to narrow it down or spark some memories to what band it might be.

No worries Lester, I saw your post and it triggered my memory. Last gave that LP a spin about 12 months ago. Not sure about the video it was from but can imagine the song as a good fit with Curren's cat-like grace.
