Excuse my ignorance.

I have been coming across the word step off a fair bit of late and im not really sure what it means?

Im assuming it is to do with tow surfing?

for example:

"Greg Russ got so many sick ones, just stepping off into bombs that would barrel all the way through,"

From the context of the quote I'd say stepping off is when the tow surfer lets go of the rope and commits to dropping into a wave

i think its tow surfing minus the rope i.e hold on to the seat of the ski while standing on your board and let go once up to speed.

i reckon its when a jetski drops them onto a wave..makes sense to me, step off the ski into a wave to hard to paddle into or a beachie to gnarly to surf and paddle out..who knows what it means to them though

That;s what I thought too Alva. They jump off the ski onto the board once they wave gets steep enough to surf

yeah mate seen it done before looks pretty fun...minus the wash throughs and horrid paddle outs haha
