Barrels? The best thing in the world
We're all slightly biased Nathan, but I find it hard to disagree with ya.
There's barrels, and there's barrels.
Personally, I love the feeling you get when you take off just that little bit too deep, and so you are wondering if you are going to make it out or get dumped. Its just so much sweeter when you make the wave after having several close encounters with the ocean floor.
agreed, but the quality all depends on where you are surfing......and some perspective!
a 2 second barrel at rifles is a mere peck on the cheek, while if you manage to sneak a 2 second barrel at crescent head, it is a full-on tongue pash considering the conditions on offer.....(although i know where i would rather surf).Some of the most memorable ones are where you were only really trying to make the wave and avoid being chop suey on the reef !
You know your're really onto something and the gratification level steps up a notch when you hear the roar and the compression makes your ears pop!
Yep, I luv em too. Old kooks like me can look good, all you got to do is stand there. More timing than talent.
It's funny, but barrels always kind of surprise me when I get them because the feeling is just ethereal every time - it never gets old. It's like mother nature giving you a hug or something. Many of my most memorable moments in surfing are tubes.
You never forget that feeling or all you senses being fully alert. You just want more!!!
Just makes you feel alive.
There's no doubt its the most amazing, euphoric experience in the world that compares to nothing else.
