Byron bay area - how much (if any) rubber do I need? (for _surfing_ ha ha)

Hi all, I'm heading up there today (lets hope there is a plane) and was wondering if a wettie is needed... Anyone surf around there? how much rubber needed? 22degrees is sort of a threshold for boardies for me, but any tips appreciated!

Water temp fluctuates more than any other time now due to upwelling from nor-easters. Bring a springy and your styling.

Just surfed there in the last few days. If you're coming up from the southern states, it's easily boardies weather (although as Steve mentioned, water temps are fluctuating by a couple of degrees per day). I would have been cooking in a springy. Crowds were split between boardies and springies, with a couple of guys in steamers/booties (!).
