Wasn't this during that very large swell a week and a bit ago. Possibly drowned or lost while surfing?

udo Friday, 5 Sep 2014 at 10:25 am

Just read it in The Age ,first id heard of it.

Craig Friday, 5 Sep 2014 at 10:33 am

Yeah, just read it to. Misses said he took 3 boards, and only two were in his apartment, so sadly it looks like he may have been lost in the surf.

Why has it taken over a week for this to come out though, and his misses only flew in last night?

If you try to paddle in from shipwrecks to the shore on a big swell/tide the current can get ya and sweep you longshore to where you nearly miss the last little bit of beach on the island. If you got swept out there Christ only knows where you'd end up.

I understand he was surfing by himself too (ie no mates in the surf with him) and that's why it took this long to make the news as no one knew he was missing.

Well not true, the hotel workers noticed when he didn't check out on time on the 26th, so that's over a week ago.

Yeah read that but hotel staff didn't think anything of it apparently.

I don't know what the conditions were like the day he disappeared but with a solid swell and an incoming tide it just keeps getting bigger until Shipwrecks can't hold it. Lembongan is about the last place on the planet you would want to get caught outside unable to cross the reef. The Lombok strait is the meanest stretch of water I have ever encountered. The tide can run like a river. Very sad.
