The Hair Flick makes a comeback.

Is it just a WA thing or has the long haired surfer started to make a comeback everywhere? Been noticing the return of the hair flick in abundance. Surfed with a young locksley today who was pulling off hair flicks that would have made a young Luke Egan (circa Sik Joy) proud, slightly dysfunctional but shit he pulled off three on one wave followed by an Andy irons style kick out at the end and one more flick before he started to paddle out again, nice work kid, but slightly femme perhaps? Made my neck a bit sore just watching him.

Must admit, I haven't seen these developments in Sydney yet. Perhaps West Oz is leading the pack?

I might get a waterproof wig then.
'Flick the wig'. Latest surf manoeuvre!

Not many long-hairs here but we have the 'Ibaraki kick-out' but it's pretty hard to describe.

Imagine a tense heat at heaving 8ft backdoor, needing a 9.8 to take the heat with 25 seconds to go, wobbles into the set of the day only to be caught slightly behind as the barrel of the day rifles off in front of our hapless world title contender. Kicking out in disgust, the body language says it all.

Now replicate that body language on every wave on a 2ft, onshore sloppy beach-break.

That my friends, is the Ibaraki kick-out.

That was gold Zen.

It's official, long hair is back . Metro lumberjack beards are dying. Euro top - knot tie backs for medium length hair is starting to emerge as a player in the game.

You can shop the look at any Androgyny Hair outlet .

Tattoos are peaking as I write this . Shorts are showing a lot of thigh. Ear grommets are yesterday's news.

The Californian/ Social Distortion greaser look is trying to gain traction on the streets , but in the sweltering Indonesian heat it's a risky move for the committed only.

i still do the hair flick after every duck dive...it's ingrained. however there is no hair there anymore, so it just looks like a nervous tic i guess.
