Well, I suppose that's just the style - more like football than say, tennis or cricket.
I did notice the revamped theme music this morning too.. very strange.
How many times do we need to be told that these are the best surfers in the world?
Carpetman- seems like every 20 mins;)..as if there aren't plenty of amazing surfers in the world that don't compete!
mk1, I hear you… its irritating for sure. He just needs to back it off a notch. Im sure he's a nice bloke but yeah they all need to just shut up a bit more and watch the surfing and let those beautiful silent moments of wave riding speak for themselves,..let us join the dots, instead of ramming it down our throats!! ..Could even let us hear the ocean that would be nice..

agreed to the above: I think Turpel could potentially leave out the terms, ''he takes off'' and ''bottom turn''…….think we've got that covered. Also since when did ''tail high'' become part of surfing vernacular?
PS - I've thought this for sometime now but does anyone else feel that some of the top women get massively over scored? Check Sally Fitz's 8.70 against Silvana Lima. 2 turns, first reasonable, second pretty stock………I don't get it. I think Silvan would have to feel a little ripped off with that result. I'm a a big fan of the likes of Sally, Steph, Carissa and Tyler's surfing but I reckon they get 'top 4' points a lot of the time.
Pottz keeps banging on about "back in the day" and turpel's "blow tail"and "lays the hammer down".there new ones to me.
What about the "well that's what you have to do" it's like no shit Sherlock . I can't listen to potzz or turpel, drive me bloody nuts!

Yep Mick looked great on that larger wave, Toledo looks unbeatable on the smaller ones and the commentary is mega daggy. Once upon a time I thought surfing was supposed to be cool now it looks like a bad version of the channel 9 news. It is DULL, BORING and EMBARRASSING and who is that Chelsea woman she has got to go looks and talks like a mannequin. They really need to add some fun and energy to the whole thing at the moment it is bland on beige.

Probably about the same time as when anyone gets close to falling off in shallow water, Pottz will say they are going down on the 'bricks' . It used to be just JBay but now every break has bricks according to Pottz
Off topic but i feel the whole WSL thing is catering for a minority young califorian crowd. As in the cliched cali surf type.
Back on topic i cant wait too pull into the carpark and hear "wow! What a rock n roll float!" Or "crazy blow tail!"
They should have a hightlight reel in the post day patrol show (or whatever its called) of mr turpels calls for the day. Im sure it would be a hit!!

Donny & SD as surfings version of Bill Lawry & Tony Greig ...... perhaps caml and jug as special insight commentary , the doyan of Australian surfing blogsville blindboy , and the stats man udo ...... don't forget shaun and sid the fish as roving reporters ....... luckily for all listeners it'll be a non visual medium ;-)

Cracker of a final day with Mick just getting the nod. Well done to the organisers must have been a hard one this year but the boys made it look way too easy, and Stu you were right about Adriano he is a fighter and definitely wants to be out there (more than I could say for JJF's effort who looked like he wanted to get back to Hawaii as soon as possible). Special mentions to Nat for those vicious snaps and Filipe for his small wave freak show. Now if they can just piss the commentators off except for the the token Aussie (he is the best in my opinion).
He's not the most stylish surfer but Adriano has a clever head and heart full of mojo. He's really pulled in his fast twitch surfing and settled on long, connected bottom and top turns that keep the rail engaged. You just can't fake that stuff at Bells and he's now made the finals twice in a row 'cos of it.
Yeah, classy bottom turn, stu.... One for the purists..... hey, saltyone.... I can do special comments, but I'll be fucked if I'm gonna sit there all day long and waffle shit lol....... Dave and welly are the guys for that ;)
If I had to, I'd tell everyone to shut the fuck up whilst a guy is surfing.... If Fanning does a cutty, I really don't have to tell the viewers, do I..... I'd just let the viewers enjoy the sound of the ocean, the crowd cheering, and the spectacle of the guy riding... Maybe throw in the odd "wow" if they do something rad.... I think the odd 20 seconds of NO commentary would make good contrast and break up the monotone chinese water torture talkfest...... We could then chat away during the replay......
Is it just me or does anyone else think that they talk too much?? It's like they can't handle silence.. have to fill in every single friggin gap. Talking up everything.. kinda takes away from just being able to watch the surfing, in my opinion. Oh and then there's the hollywood serious action film style theme music ..
