Single Fin Riding

I know this has been a topic before, but it didn't answer my specific question. I walked into a surf shop today, and asked the guy about single fin riding, because I had just taken the two fins off. This guy immediately asked me why. He had this "Ha amateur" look on his face. He said that single fin didn't improve anything. So my question is why do so many longboarders prefer single fin?

the surf shop guy was right, he obviously doesn't cater for HIPSTERS!

Single fin for trim & glide...side fins for trajectory & carve out of your turns

Sounds like it's a 2+1 longboard.

Large single fins are good on noseriders

Took my first board, a 6'6 1974 single, out last week in some of the juice we've been getting, so fast, so free, long rides, tail holds in the drops. My turns weren't as vertical, but I didn't care. Not really answering your question though.

For the longboarders, you have the McTavish type boards that are 2+1 and 'performance', and the pre-68 soft railed boards which are more likely to be single. Again, comes down to feeling. The new retro single longboards are a damned sight easier to ride than the 1960's originals IMO.

Thanks guys for the help, I will also ask another local surf shop. I started longboarding because I like the nose riding style, so I think Ill keep it single fin for a while.
