Tom Tate bio piece in Fairfax

"If you've done heavy weights and all that, and people come up to intimidate you, you just smile" – he unleashes a sample grin – "because you're not intimidated. If you bench 130 kilos, what's this 80-kilo guy gunna do to intimidate you?""
The silly old prick is 57-years-old.
It was Tate who got the Kirra big Groyne re-extended....and I've got no doubt if he thought there was a dollar in artificial reefs he would be all over it.
Tate mentioned in the ABC story on Goldcoast surfing reserve ......about making more breaks/artificial reefs to ease surf crowds
Exactly, when has looking after the environment ever made a place any better?
Man vs. nature - the road to victory, I always say.

It's all well and good to be puffed up and full of bluster until some little guy with skill absolutely dismantles you.
geez that offshore spit cruise ship terminal has a lot of artificial wave potential, could make several waves with protection from every wind there is. could look as ridiculous as a dubai development, but gold coasters love that shit
could get some fed up with crowds greeny surfers on side too.
"The people can make up their own minds whether they want to elect an [environmentalist] as mayor, or someone who wants to have a go and make the Gold Coast a better place."
An eye-opening read for anyone curious about Gold Coast politics or the potential for an artificial reef on the GC. Gotta get the plans past this guy first:
