Desert point reef change?

Wharfjunkie Saturday, 11 Aug 2018 at 06:34 pm

Wonder if the earthquake caused any changes to the reef?

indo-dreaming Saturday, 11 Aug 2018 at 06:37 pm

I think unlikely, the earth quake was in the far north area, the south not really affected.

Wharfjunkie Saturday, 11 Aug 2018 at 06:53 pm

Wasn't sure how far the geographical effects reached.

indo-dreaming Saturday, 11 Aug 2018 at 07:31 pm

I would have thought if the reef has risen or sunk at deserts then there would be reports of damage to buildings in the south.

Thats true was just wondering if there was an effect.

Actually this is interesting

"Bali earthquake map: NASA map reveals Lombok earthquake CHANGED Indonesia's landscape
NASA has used new satellite data to produce a map of ground deformation on the resort island of Lombok following Sunday’s deadly earthquake."
https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1001220/Bali-earthquake-map-today-…

From what i can tell there has been a 0.05 meter drop in the Dessert point region and south coast and super suck area of Sumbawa.

Im reading that as 5cm (50mm) drop, probably a slight improvement for deserts?

Wharfjunkie Saturday, 11 Aug 2018 at 08:54 pm

I don't know the islands as well as you ID wonder if there is unfortunately more quakes in the area will there be more changes to the area.

Didn't the reef at Nias rise about 1.8m during the Sumatra earthquake making it better ? And at the rate of subsidence it was going to take a couple of centuries for it to get back to original level. I am not sure if 5cm at Deserts will be noticeable, a slight improvement for SS though.

I don't know how factual this vid is?.....but it is interesting.

He predicts another quake in the South West Java region (near Turtles) in the next week of about high 6's, supposably based on recent earthquakes in Lombok and Mentawais and other Volcanic activity in the region.
