I'm heading to Mentawais for my first trip.

Any shots etc I should be getting before I go?

Any tips for medical things to take as well much appreciated

Land based

Probably best to go see a Doctor for advise.

But yeah generally if going to a developed country you should have certain shots updated Hep A, Typhoid, Tetanus etc.

Being on land might put you at more risk than a boat but you can still get a rusty gaff in your leg etc.

Not that i take my own advice, i cant remember when i got my last shots....

As for malaria, id be more worried about getting dengue fever in Padang these days.

Thanks Indo

I'm going to give Malaria tablets a miss and just try to avoid getting bitten.

It's been 10 years since I've had any typhoid/tetanus/hep shots... is it a ludicrous suggestion to not top up any? Or just a little foolish?

Ie is there a high likelihood I'll get something if I don't boost up?

Doxy cycline for sure. Those mozzies can really mess with you. I also take an anti inflammatory with me and hydrolite . I’ve never had trouble with the doxy’s. I just smash myself with sunscreen and take it at night.
