Regional NSW - 7 day lockdown, August 15

thermalben started the topic in Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 02:49 pm

Just announced a short time ago. Apparently the stay-at-home orders will be in place for a week.

thermalben Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 03:04 pm new

Up here on the Tweed, we've been sandwiched between SE Qld and Byron Bay lockdowns over the last month or so.

Aside from old mate from Sydney and his sons who brought about the Byron lockdown (and who are now in Lismore hospital), my understanding is that there have been no other community cases of Covid in the Northern Rivers.

As such the nearest Covid cases are in Newcastle (650km away). There are case locations for Tamworth (500km away) but no confirmed cases.

IMO the Northern Rivers should probably be tied in with SE Qld (ie we should have been in lockdown during their recent episode), but I understand how it's difficult to reimagine (let alone enforce) geographical boundaries during pandemics.

thermalben Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 03:13 pm new

Anyway, hang in there everyone. It's been a rough trot for Greater Sydney, and Vicco has been through months of pain, as well as many other regions that have been through lockdown. The quicker we nail this, the quicker we'll come through the other side.

lostdoggy Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 03:14 pm new

Detected in Ballina sewerage now apparently.

Distracted Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 03:19 pm new

Gladys’s gold standard is looking pretty brown coloured now. Can’t see the lockdown stopping soon, if they want minimum 50% vaccinated.

Vic Local Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:03 pm new

What an absolute shit show.
Fucking Gladys should resign. She saw what Delta was doing all around the globe. She watched Victoria beat it (after it spread to Melbourne from NSW). She refused to go into lockdown because she was under pressure from Scumo and big business. She ignored the medical advice and now Covid is rampant in NSW and has spread to SA, Qld, ACT, and Victoria again. This is nothing short of a rolled gold fuckup and Scumo can't take his fair share of the blame for not have enough vaccines or proper quarantine. This is very much the LNP outbreak, caused by arrogance and incompetence.

GuySmiley Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:06 pm new

Lets see and hear what actually is formally announced but this is the first bit of good news I've heard about the NSW govt (mis)management of the Delta virus. No glotting or smuggest here as someone who went through Melbourne's lockdown last year without a surf I feel very sad for what is happening up north. For the first time I also feel my anger lessening at the risk this failed NSW govt has put not only the State but the entire country to an uncontrolled outbreak. Hang in there everyone you are now locked in for many weeks / months of lockdowns and restrictions.

Supafreak Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:11 pm new

@themalben We have been extremely lucky in the tweed shire, don’t think it will last though , hate to sound so negative but still too many holes in the Swiss cheese. We were lucky with the chinderah roadhouse case .

Blowin Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:19 pm new

What a load of shit.

38,000 cases ( lol) and how many healthy people under 65 have died ? One or two at most. Why they’d lock everyone down is utterly ridiculous. Now even the sewage in Ballina is INFECTED…..lololol

At least this explains the endless crew bolting down the coast past Sussex for the past 24 hours……

indo-dreaming Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:23 pm new

I think it's a shame because for almost a year NSW really did hold the gold standard they put Victoria to complete shame, they were able to control outbreaks without needing to lock down large areas and their contact tracers were clearly 10 times better than Victoria's.

But they clearly totally over estimated the Delta variant and Gladys was pig headed and stubborn they should have learnt from Victorias fuck ups and just ate a bit of humble pie and used the same methods, and they could still look back and say, actually Victoria you are the only basket case.

But now the real shame is they will actually make Victoria look better because now NSW has fucked up too and if they dont eat humble pie and deal with things differently they could end up looking much worse than Vicco, Dan must be licking his lips watching it all go down.

It's the same as Trump supporters and the capitol, if they had just stuck to decent behaviour and not stormed the capitol, they could now take the high moral ground and point fingers at the radical left in the USA who almost always revert to violence and looting, but one incident fucks things up.

It's a shame.

Anyway as they say down here in Victoria, the worst part of a one week lockdown, is the first three weeks :D

lostdoggy Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:23 pm new

Wow, now that is proper delusion.

indo-dreaming Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:24 pm new

Actually you cant argue with reality the figures dont lie.

lostdoggy Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:28 pm new

Gladys has had Sydney in a fake “lockdown” for what, 7 weeks? and the numbers keep going up and it’s spreading to the regions and beyond because there’s no rule or enforcement clearly saying people can’t leave Sydney.

Victoria fucked up and then locked down. And by locked down, I mean they locked down.

Blowin Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:38 pm new

Sure it is.

Show me the figures of deaths. At least 600 of them have been in aged care. Hundreds more in palliative care, or pre existing and dire hospital situations.

Show me the numbers of young healthy ( sub 50 ) people who’ve died.

Covid deaths today - The deaths include a woman in her 40s in palliative care who was unvaccinated, a man in his 70s who had pre-existing conditions and was vaccinated, a man in his 80s who died at Concord Hospital and was unvaccinated, and a woman in her 70s who died at Campbelltown Hospital, whose vaccination status has not yet been confirmed

Meanwhile….my mate at Sussex just had two days crook as a fucken dog from first dose AZ and his wife’s brother was hospitalised from same. But the vaccine is harmless!

But….the Delta strain! Like when the three sick blokes galavanted around Byron unimpeded looking at real estate for a week ….how many people got sick from that ? No one.

Still….Lock. Us. Down!

simba Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:37 pm new

geez i wish i had a small buisness in melb or syd.........said no one

Roadkill Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:41 pm new

Oh well…..business in Murwillumbah and I lock up for a week and have a forced holiday. No surf tho…

Roadkill Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:43 pm new

Blowin..still the exact dumb as fuck attitude that got us here.

Blowin Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:48 pm new

Show me those numbers bloke. Show me all the thousands of kids and healthy people who should be dead by now.

Maybe you think the sneaky, conniving virus is just bidding it’s time ? Waiting till the population experiences maximum fear before it strikes ! Just like Freddy Krueger. If this virus was a movie villain it would struggle to get a PG rating.

Roadkill Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:51 pm new

Still an uneducated dick. No use trying to argue with stupid.

Roadkill Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 04:55 pm new

Stu, 100% correct, Tweed should be in with QLD in this case. Even have the cut off north of Byron.

I hate to break the news to Regional NSW, but you're deluding yourself if you think this lockdown will only be 7 days.
The NSW track and tracing teams have been overwhelmed. The lockdown has way too many loopholes, and there's so many fuckwits ignoring the rules. This shitshow isn't ending until vaccine rates are triple what they are now, and even then, it's not going to be a clean quick exit from lockdown. Lots of cases, lots of hospitalisations, and lots of deaths. Thanks Gladys you absolute fuckwit.
Settle in NSW, get vaxxed, and FFS, stop spreading the virus to Victoria.

thermalben Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 06:16 pm new

Ever since Sydney went into lockdown seven weeks ago, I've been expecting it to remain in place until the end of the year.

Unfortunately this now looks likely for the entire state.

Blowin Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 06:24 pm new

No justification whatsoever. Blackmailing people into getting their vaccine. Using people’s lives as leverage. Cunts.

Is this the same as your prediction last Christmas of a super spreader event from the Avalon cluster (that never happened) before your dramatic departure from here.......that you have now come back AGAIN. A little bored because your in lockdown............AGAIN? Moron. We all know how well you "predictions" play out,

Roadkill Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 06:40 pm new

100% in favour of an individuals choice to get the vaccine…don’t want it don’t get it. Also..you get zero govt handouts, you get covid and get hospitalised you get the full bill handed to you..you infect others you get their hospital bill handed to you. If your employers wants vaccinated staff..you lose your job. You choose.

Vic Local Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 06:43 pm new

"Blackmailing people into getting their vaccine."
Oh please. Nobody is going to pin people down and force a needle in them, but there are consequences for idiotic lifestyle choices.
So when a bunch of anti-vax morons inevitably end up in hospital, they should be getting a bill. Why should the taxpayer pay for their idiocy. And why should other patient's care be compromised because anti-vax cunts are filling up ICUs.
There are consequences to being a complete and utter anti-science dickhead.

Vic Local Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 06:46 pm new

Oh FFS Fitzroy. You do realise vic went into lockdown due to the Northern Beaches cluster spreading south.

fitzroy-21 Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 06:48 pm new

Wrong again MORON.

Westofthelake Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 07:01 pm new

Just an fyi re NSW lockdown as of now:

EXERCISE AND SHOPPING: From Monday, you can exercise or do essential shopping anywhere within your LGA or within 5km of your home if you have to enter another LGA (such as Newcastle). This is down from the previous 10km.

WORK AND VISITOR PERMITS: From August 21, anyone travelling to regional areas from Greater Sydney for work must have a permit. These permits will be available through Service NSW soon. At this stage it is not a requirement for people who travel into the Greater Sydney or Central Coast areas for work.

REAL ESTATE INSPECTIONS: As above for all people leaving the Greater Sydney area - permit required. Only one person and that person must genuinely need a home to live in (no investment property purchasing etc).

HOLIDAY HOMES: As above for all people leaving Greater Sydney area - permit required. Travelling to a second home is now only allowed if you are using the home for work accommodation or if the home requires urgent maintenance or repairs.

SINGLES BUBBLES: Singles who live alone in hotspot LGAs will now have to apply for and nominate a registered 'buddy'. Please note that the rules around providing care to a vulnerable person, such as an elderly parent, have not changed.

INCREASED FINES FROM MONDAY August 16:
- $5000 on the spot for breaching self-isolation rules
- $5000 on the spot for lying on a permit (criminal offence)
- $5000 on the spot for lying to a contract tracer (criminal offence)
- $3000 on the spot for breaching the two-person outdoor exercise rule
- $3000 on the spot for breaching rules around travelling to regional areas from the Greater Sydney area.

INCREASED POLICING AND DEFENCE PERSONNEL: More police will now monitor compliance with the above rules, in particular the travel rules. The Police Minister and Police COmmissioner have today also announced that compliance efforts will be boosted by 500 Defence Force personnel, and they will be targeting main link roads such as the M1.

LATE TEST PAYMENTS: The Government has announced that it will pay $320 to casual workers who lose work while waiting for Covid test results, but only in the hotspot areas of Sydney. This is ridiculous given the wait so many in the local community are facing.

Agree Ben but mostly because I think everywhere else in the country Sydney wasn’t seen to be in an effective lockdown to cope with the Delta virus from day one.

It’s literally blackmail.

Everyone gets locked in their houses until a certain percentage of the population takes the shitty vaccine. It’s authoritarianism writ large. There is no sick people within 300km of where I live. Not even anyone who “ tests positive “ with their dodgy faux infection detector. What possible reason or justification is there to place everyone under house arrest?

Blows my mind that there’s some people who accept this draconian totalitarian bullshit. Of course there’s always going to be the pea brains who voluntarily march in lockstep without even bothering to question the doubtlessly untrustworthy politicians issuing the orders. These were the type of people back in the 1940’s who’d argue that smoking was healthy by pointing to the old tobacco ads which declared that most Doctors smoked Camel unfiltereds .

Army on the streets. Thousands of police making sure no one leaves their houses. There’s not a hint of the virus for 300km and if I go help my elderly parents I’ll get fined $5000.

Freeride….you still reckon Australia isn’t under authoritarian rule? It’s not coming….it’s here.

saltyone Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 07:15 pm new

I knew a doctor for many years who smoked camel unfiltered his whole life .
He was a great man but died a horrible death of lung cancer just after retirement.

Shoredump…..A fella with premature ejaculation comes out of no where….

lostdoggy Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 07:16 pm new

Blowin, you can help your elderly parents. It is a reasonable excuse to travel.

Blowin Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 07:19 pm new

Saltyone- My point being that the tobacco industry used to pay doctors to lie about the health risks from smoking in order to protect sales from the commonsense truth which most people intuitively understood.

The type of people who argued that smoking must be healthy because some doctors said it was, despite the generally accepted reality which showed otherwise, are the sort of people who defend locking down an entire section of coast which has no virus and no way of getting the virus.

Their is a branch of study called agnotology which specialises in understanding why these people believe propaganda which contradicts commonsense and evidence. An agnotologist would have a field day with at least one local from Victoria I can think of.

Blowin Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 07:23 pm new

Lostdoggy….I don’t think I can. I’m not a registered carer. I was going to install handrails at their place this week. My Mum is experiencing hectic dizzy spells since the vaccine. She’s already gone over hard once.

There is not a single justification for this bullshit. It’s nothing but politicking and it costs people their human right to freedom.

lostdoggy Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 07:27 pm new

Doesn’t say you need to be a registered carer.

“go out for medical or caring reasons, including obtaining a COVID-19 vaccination.”

Blowin Saturday, 14 Aug 2021 at 07:36 pm new

Cheers Lostdoggy. That makes a big difference to me. I hadn’t seen that.
