Middleton water quality, is surfing safe?

The Murray River is flowing into the ocean which is brilliant for the health of the whole system but the water quality along the south coast is pretty awful as a result. From Goolwa to Middleton brown sludge, dead fish some chomped and everything else that was in the river like pesticides, fertiliser and the contents of septic tanks. Does the mixing of sea and freshwater dilute the nasties and make it safe for surfers?

I just surfed off Cliffs. Wasn't too bad at all. Thought it'd be worse. I'm used to it though after the last three La Niña's on the East Coast.
