New Japanese Island - surf potential?
Also, this is not to be confused with Niijima Island which has hosted a bevvy of ASP World Tour events over the last couple of decades.
Won't be long till the Chinese claim the air-space over it and say that the Japanese 'stole' it from them.
Not sure if I've just got too much time on my hands but I love scoping the coastlines of the world looking for waves. Wish this comp was still running. https://www.surfingmagazine.com/google-earth-challenge/
Off the coast of WA, have a look at the southern most tip of west wallabi island... right hander?
Pretty sure a fella was killed by a 6m Great White while snorkling at that very spot in 2005.
pelseant island, reports it was a 6m G WHITE instant death and no body was recovered.
Ah yes you're right Udo. Flew over it when we were filming Storm Surfers and spoke to a few of the local guys about what happened.. sounded horrific.
Back on topic, the new Japanese island reminds me of the volcanic activity that spawned a new island near Tonga a few years ago.

The best unsurfed waves in the world? Try North Sentinel Island and then Google it to find out why!
Yeah, I've read about them. They take localism to new heights.
Actually i just read a full article on that island, pretty interesting. Maybe just jump in and get a few then get the hell out of there before the locals are onto you.

Not sure what direction it faces but Japan's newest island 'Niijima' is showing a couple of interesting little coves and points that may show some surf potential once the volcanic gases bugger off. First in best dressed, eh?
