October surf travel?

Some suggestions, please.

I have a week late October to go on a quick surf trip, and I'd like to go somewhere warm without massive travel logistics (from NZ). Was thinking either North Shore or Tahiti, as bothe are relatively short and cheap flights.

I like the idea of walking/cycling the NS looking for off-broadway waves, but Tahiti tempts too. Rights would be a bonus, and I'd happily do some long distance paddles.

Would love to hear some ideas.

Not cheap being on a yacht in Fiji, and the closest place to stay looks super expensive too.
