Bringing Dr Karl back into the argument.
I remember him once saying that he never lights wood fires even when camping becuase one fire polutes more than driving your car around all year.
Sounds a bit over the top, but it would be interesting to find out how much polution fires do create.

often wondered the effects of firework shows on the environment, a google around shows some horrific substances in the firecrackers.......interesting to have some Sydney harbour water analysed the day after ?
the same or better show could be done with lasers but with zero enviro damage.
