Signing or marking a board???
You will probably be told, as his reputation will hang on the board

i'm thinking that lightly sanding the board where you want it signed would work best. rough it up so a pencil will write on there. get the shaper (merrick? Brewer? takayama?) to sign it and then lightly resin over the top.
marker pen wont work cos the resin will react with it.
