I heard he just died. Hollywood should do a movie on that guy! What a dark life he lived. Still yet to see anyone else go left a Waimea (but why would you?). Drugs, guns, wanted by FBI, and one incredible ripper.

for real?

Yep, for real he is dead. Died of unknown causes yesterday. Not sure about the other stuff, though he definitely had a darker side, spent a few years in prison and mixed up in all sorts of stuff. Might post a few old mag shots later if I get the time.

From Honolulu's Star Bulletin: "Foster, 49, died from asphyxia due to hanging earlier this week, according to the city Department of the Medical Examiner. The manner of his death was classified as a suicide."

That's heavy. Can you post some information when you get it on how and when etc.
That guy was an amazing surfer and was inspirational to so many. Heavy!

Exactly the edition I was recalling when I read the headline of this thread.

Sorry to hear of his demise

A very close friend of mine had a brother commit suicide a few years ago. I called to give my condolences.

His response 'mate, he was dead 4 years ago when he started on Heroin' he was not surprised. Marvin's situation by reputable account is very similar albeit a different poison.

The message here is that drugs are evil. Do yourself a favour and stay away from them. Marvin was also one of my childhood heroes and I do not mean any disrespect, I have friends that grew up with him and felt their pain last week, their message to me was how sad it was that he got involved in this stuff. A great surfer and great man also that made a bad decision at one point or another ending up in this result.

I feel for Marvins family and friends. RIP.
