Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.

Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.

yep, right behind your swellnet interest in live nation shitfuckery (to paraphrase amy winehouse).. re making a poetry, what happened to @JF's? they were the fruit to quote @Mal. can someone (PopD?) buy the MC 8' RV twin please? I have better things to spend money on.

My son is going to see Hollow Coves for his 17th, frickin loves then, they are the only 'band' he's ever really gelled with in terms of never tiring of them.. (affiliated with light as air, and select music, I believe..)

blackers Friday, 18 Oct 2024 at 09:32 pm new

Yes and yes. Fun place, great team there. Intimate but not in yer face so. Heard him interviewed driving back from the limestone coast and noted the date.

basesix Friday, 18 Oct 2024 at 09:41 pm new

I picture it kinda like Beav's Bar in geelong, from the bands that play there -
like a really fun, mellow space, with people who like to listen..

blackers Friday, 18 Oct 2024 at 09:50 pm new

Not been there, but music for older, but still trying to be groovy, peeps. Hence me & the Mrs are of to see surf guitar sounds with like minds and good beer.

basesix Friday, 18 Oct 2024 at 10:26 pm new

sounds perfect, I'll try it one day, was looking at taking PoppaD up on saying g'day one day, but noticed my familiar haunt at the top end of chapel st, a very affordable and cute guesthousey backpackey thing, the claremont has permanently closed : (
(again, you and ms blackers could do worse than kick back to juliette seizure and the tremor dolls at the golden wattle, next time you are in adelaide ; )

cos this is a tunes thread, here's the word on the street.. kids are hating on this

cos of what he supports, logan paul, prime, lunchly, apparently.. the song is fine..
my take is it is like a hulk hogan iron sheik thing.. he's the bling bling baddie.. sells blips.

30 years today The Melvins Stoner Witch

Three of their best songs, especially Revolve

thermalben Saturday, 26 Oct 2024 at 09:34 am new

Listening to Spotify while I did some work this morning (random "Discover" playlist selected by the algo), and this band popped up - I glanced at their photo and saw the first sentence of their "description" and simply had to click to read more.

And it made me realize that many of the biographies on Spotify are written by the bands themselves, which more closely equates to a LinkedIn circle jerk than anything else.

Anyway, behold "My Morning Jacket".

https://imgur.com/VfgYxsh.jpg

For the record, their music wasn't too bad; inoffensive though somewhat unmemorable pop tunes.

lostdoggy Saturday, 26 Oct 2024 at 10:49 am new

They’ve been around a long time now.
Think I saw them at the big day out and they were already well established then.

indo-dreaming Saturday, 26 Oct 2024 at 12:02 pm new

Seen their name around but never given them a listen, just checked a few of their songs out.

"inoffensive though somewhat unmemorable pop tunes."

Is a good description.

Another Album that turned 30 not long ago, a top 50 Album of all time for me.

Superchunk Foolish

Not a single but this is my fav from the album, brings back memories of living in a Kombie surfing up and down the east coast with a good mate. (top to tail)

This was a great listen

"For the 30th anniversary of Superchunk’s fourth album, FOOLISH, we take a detailed look at how it was made. After Superchunk got their start in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1989, they were becoming known for their catchy punk anthems and busy touring schedule. Mac McCaughan and Laura Ballance had been a couple and formed Merge Records initially as a way to release their early singles, while releasing their full-length albums on Matador Records. Around the time of their third album, ON THE MOUTH, McCaughan and Ballance ended their romantic relationship, causing tension and uncertainty about the future of the band, as well as Merge. The inner-band turmoil impacted the songs they were writing, as McCaughan wrote lyrics from a vulnerable place while they also worked to expand their sound, incorporating more dynamics, new guitar textures and slower tempos. They booked studio time at Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, Minnesota with Brian Paulson, who they had wanted to work with after hearing records he made with Slint and Unrest. Their breakneck three-day session resulted in FOOLISH, eventually released in 1994.

In this episode, Mac McCaughan describes his intention to do something different musically with this record and how he was incorporating more clean guitar tones and space than ever before. Laura Ballance talks about hearing McCaughan’s lyrics for the first time in the studio and how she felt attacked as she interpreted them as being about her or about their relationship. Jim Wilbur gives his perspective on this tumultuous time in the band’s history, but how they were able to remain collaborative as a unit and write many songs quickly. From treating the band like a job to losing a day in the studio to writing on acoustic guitars to an ambitious and tense video shoot to the story behind the album cover to a breakup record with some of Superchunk’s most enduring songs, we’ll hear the stories of how the album came together."

The older I get, the more out of touch I realise I am with music.

"The older I get, the more out of touch I realise I am with music."
@thermalben, no need to feel like thats a bad thing, just go with the flow. So much out there it's impossible to get your head around it all.
I do like the Spotify " discover" playlist, it throws up a lot of things that may or may not float your boat. I always try to run it through and note the tracks I like. Have to train the algorithm by liking a few leftfield tunes otherwise it gets a bit samey.

88 fingers Louie.
Currently learning the guitar part for it.
Easily the hardest guitar part i've ever attempted but loving the challenge.
Great song. There's a yt tutorial out there for this song for anyone interested and can probably overtake my progress! This is fast fingers territory! ha.

Something i'm learning more and more. Humans need to be told how to live (separate from guidance) and how to act. They struggle without these answers and struggle to find the elusive 'answer' out for themselves. Which ironically is the answer.

@truebluebasher all-time recommend:
(I even bought this Ken Nordine record after @tbb posted it..)

below: I had this record as a little kid, had a bunch of cool singles,
this is the version I knew, lotsa read-versions of the book,
seems the book was very well known, the record less so..
anyway the message of all this.. know thyself; heal thyself; forgive yourself;
cos, wherever you go, there you are!

(for the googling, to find the sn, "mister dog", "crispin's crispian", "dog who belonged to himself")

basesix Friday, 1 Nov 2024 at 03:29 pm new

reckon this is @tbb 2.0
the clean from nz

victoria by the kinks, fark I love the kinks..
such a strange 'why they didn't become massive' usa story..

and the jam.. (sigh) the UK muvvas pushing the boundary of how expressive you can punk..
I think, ultimately we, the people said nup, stay in the 4 piece box, you outer squarers,
must drive them nuts, creatives, when they want to make a little money from what they bring us.
