Surf Movies

SURF MOVIES.

I Have used the Search Function and had errors after errors come up.. so thought id throw this out there.

Have recently gotten my GF into fishing and now she doesnt bug me for going all the time.. so now its time to get her into Surfing, ive bought her a wetsuit and got a spare board here that will do her for now..

but something she has actually been getting into a bit is "Surf Movies". by this i dont mean the hundreds of videos of people shredding waves etc though she does watch the XXL and big wave vids with me a fair bit on youtube.

She watched "Chasing Mavericks" last night all the way through without falling asleep or asking a million questions ( we all know how unusual that is ;) ) . so ive been wondering what other movies can be used to wet her appetite even more!

so far ive only shown her "In Gods Hands", "Soul Surfer" and "Chasing Mavericks" have got "Bra Boys" lined up as well and probably the Endless Summer movies.

Any more suggestion of surfing based movies with a story line??

cheers

Blue Crush.

She'll love it but you'll probably want to neck yourself within the first 10 minutes.

del Monday, 20 May 2013 at 05:38 pm

I swear i typed SURF movies.. not SURE movies...

lol ill download blue crush... from memory it will atleast have some eye candy...

carpetman Monday, 20 May 2013 at 05:59 pm

Not sure if it's the kind of movie you're looking for but even if it doesn't suit your misses I'm sure you'll enjoy it... Second Thoughts. A proper surf film but with a bit of a story and more importantly awesome surf.

shaun Monday, 20 May 2013 at 06:15 pm

Don't teach her how to surf mate or the next holiday you book you'll be looking for the world softest waves.
My missus liked that billabong big wave movie from a few years ago, generally she finds watching surfing boring, matter of fact so do I.

indo-dreaming Monday, 20 May 2013 at 06:28 pm

North shore, corny but a classic.

The drifter, bit wanky but worth watching once.

As is Nat Youngs History of surfing (documentary style)

Theres also a movie about that pro surfer chick that got her arm bit off, sorry forgot her name, worth watching once.

del Monday, 20 May 2013 at 06:34 pm

Indo, that last one is Soul Surfer i reckon about Bethany Hamilton?

Doped Youth is a thought provoking, intelligent look at the hopes and aspirations of a diverse group of surfers who have formed a band. The plot centres around Oscar and his love interest, known only as Bunny Girl, as he strives to overcome his nemesis the egotistical Groovy Avalon(played by an excellent Kelly Slater who's work on Baywatch paved the way for this breakout role).
With the evil character Augustus Peebelby plotting their downfall the band, Doped Youth, fight their way to the finals of the Battle of the Bands.
Did they win? Well you just have to see the movie!
With some great surfing sequences and a cameo appearance from Greasy and Lemmmy(aka Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson) this movie is a classic and sure to entertain your girl del.
I give it 4 stars. XXXX

zenagain Tuesday, 21 May 2013 at 02:45 pm

For goodness sakes carpetman, just tell us and put us out of our misery too.

You've got me baffled.

Could it be 'Ride the wild Surf'?

stunet Tuesday, 21 May 2013 at 03:08 pm

Yorkesurfer mentioned 'Doped Youth' and it's a movie that bears repeating.

Check the link and make sure you've got the volume turned waaaaay up 'cos guitars and surfing go together like Ozzie Wright and rock shelves.

BEST. SECTION. EVER.

carpetman Tuesday, 21 May 2013 at 03:11 pm

No no, you'll have to go to all the trouble of dragging the mouse over the youtube links, copying, pasting in the browser search bar and finally pressing enter. I know its tough but it will be worth it.

stunet Tuesday, 21 May 2013 at 03:13 pm

Nice! Cheers Stu.

Finally the masses can rest easy... knowing surf nazis must die!

zenagain Tuesday, 21 May 2013 at 05:01 pm

Nice one carpetman. I watched the trailer and here I was thinking it would be some intellectual wasteland, void of plot and substance. I somehow feel I've been living under a rock having missed this little cinematic gem.

del Tuesday, 21 May 2013 at 09:05 pm

looks like keeping my GF happy and amused has benefited the masses ;)

some great films coming out of the woodwork here!

Jimmy Slade Monday, 9 Dec 2013 at 05:43 pm

Point Break.

Craig Monday, 9 Dec 2013 at 05:55 pm

I heard Point Break 2 is in the making or a remake of the first one??

Jimmy Slade Monday, 9 Dec 2013 at 07:21 pm

I think it has been in the pipeline (please excuse the pun) for a while after a few failed attempts to get up and running.

But it just wouldn't be the same without Bodhi!

sidthefish Monday, 9 Dec 2013 at 09:12 pm

What I'd like to know, getting back to the original post, Del-boy, what the hell are you doing getting your GF into fishing ???

Mate, you don't take girls fishing. The boys go fishing to get away from the girls. The boys go fishing and the girls go shopping... that's the rules.

Be very careful, get her into fishing and surfing, next she'll be after your shed. Then where are you gunna hide ?

finback Tuesday, 10 Dec 2013 at 03:59 pm

Don't forget bustin down the door, billabong challenge series and Jack McCoy collection eg bunyip Dreaming, green Iguana, Sons of Fun and Sikjoy

sidthefish Tuesday, 10 Dec 2013 at 05:12 pm

KONG's ISLAND, look out for the cream puff tree.

zenagain Tuesday, 10 Dec 2013 at 05:51 pm

Chappy, he's the snappy one. He likes to bite ankles.

Another 80's classic that inspired me as a teenager was Billabong's Surf into Summer. With that old school American narration and an awsome soundtrack(TSOL, Bill Lincoln) I played this on my VHS player at least 1000 times.

Sections on a brash young Occy dueling with Tom Curren at Bells, 17 year old Sunny Garcia fucking tearing, Bugs and Butto at Kirra and the Eddie where a young Ross Clarke Jones blew everyone away charging 25ft Waimea Bay after surviving three 30ft cleanup sets!

The boards and surfing look a bit dated in this day and age but its worth a look to see that point in time where thrusters were in their infancy and new school surfing was just around the corner.

thermalben Wednesday, 11 Dec 2013 at 09:43 am

Strike Force was one of my favourites when I was a grommet. Great surf and a pumping soundtrack too!

reecen Wednesday, 11 Dec 2013 at 08:15 pm

04. Dubrovniks - Down To The Sea
05. Sublime - We're Only Gonna Die For Our Arrogance

07. Hunters & Collectors - Head Above Water
08. Steve Jones - Freedom Fighter
09. Vanilla Chainsaws - Red Ligths
10. Yothu Yindi - Djäpana

Is that as good as Mega Force?

'Surf Nazi's Must Die' should be re-released on DVD. Don't know how I missed that one.
It also led me to a clip from 'Blood Surf'. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0226919/
I haven't posted the youtube link as it was a soft porn scene. Not sure how it was unrestricted on youtube though.

mundies Wednesday, 11 Dec 2013 at 11:54 pm

Strike Force - now theres a film from deep distant memories. Fluorescent shiny wetties and Sydney / south coast NSW reefs from memory.

Gotta be drift. If your bird needs a storyline with some not toooooo bad surfing. this your go.

The unseen green iguana occy at occy's left straight into more Dahlberg action from Creed to butthole surfers is worthwhile. Man can hold a rail. From 28 minutes-ish.
Otherwise, just watch the whole thing.

simba Saturday, 9 Dec 2023 at 11:44 am

Ld never really watched Creeds surfing before but after watching the vid i am now a fan......old school power surfing at its finest.......
