All the racists and evil old men making 1.6 billion Chinese want home theatres and new cars !

Stinking colonialism forcing India and Brazil into becoming developed nations.

stunet Wednesday, 18 Dec 2019 at 10:08 am new

So you support colonialism - which usurps a nation's soverignty - but support Brexit because it reinstates British soverignty.

Que?

Australia is a resource colony.

Blowin Wednesday, 18 Dec 2019 at 01:24 pm new

You mean this Scott Morrison ? ( via New Daily )

“Ten years ago, an ambitious young Liberal MP led the charge attacking Victoria’s police chief Christine Nixon for choosing to eat dinner at a gastropub as the horror of Black Saturday, the worst bushfires in the state’s history, unfolded.

Scott Morrison was that MP’s name and he did not hold back when condemning her actions when asked on the ABC’s Q&A program in April 2010.

“She’s clearly made a bad judgment call. That happens to people from time to time, but this was a very serious issue,” Mr Morrison said.

…But now, it’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison under attack for flying out of Australia with his wife and daughters for an overseas holiday as bushfires continue to burn at home.

The New Daily confirmed on Monday he had flown overseas to a mystery location before a busy schedule of official trips in the region, including to India in January.“

braudulio Wednesday, 18 Dec 2019 at 01:37 pm new

Obviously just keen to catch the Pipe finals and maybe grab a few off the crew after the hooter.

indo-dreaming Wednesday, 18 Dec 2019 at 02:32 pm new

Pretty silly of Scomo to say that back then and it's now come back to bite him, thats politics though.

Should he be able to take a holiday like everyone else at the end of the year and spend time with his family after probably not seeing them that much all year?

Fuck yeah..or should he have to wait until every fire is put out?

If he had left in the peak of things when he needed to seen and heard and he pissed off on holiday, then yeah different story.

Blowin Wednesday, 18 Dec 2019 at 02:52 pm new

Indo ....whilst Scomo isn’t required to be manning a hose on the fire front, he is supposed to act like a leader.

Even a site supervisor will work through the weekend if the job requires attention. Scomo is just advertising how unnecessary and replaceable he is. It shows just how unsuitable for the role he actually is with the fact that he can’t even see the value in portraying the leadership required. But you just know that if it was an Olympic opening ceremony with a ribbon to be cut then those holidays would be cut short immediately.

If Albo had half a ball he’d front up and act like a leader in lieu. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to know where to even start.

Instead Albo is probably sitting at home with a box of tissues and a tray of chocolates watching The Notebook again as he tends to at times of heavy flow and iron depletion.

Here’s a question......who would you rather punch in the face ?

Smug Scomo or Albo with his oestrogen levels just begging to be slapped ?

Too hard a choice.

zenagain Wednesday, 18 Dec 2019 at 09:36 pm new

A wedgie is non-partisan Guy.

Listen Guy, and understand. That wedgie is out there. It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until your eyes are watering.

Week long state of emergency declared in NSW, where’s Scotty from Marketing?

stunet Thursday, 19 Dec 2019 at 09:56 am new

In the face of climate uncertainty here's one thing you can take to the bank:

stunet Thursday, 19 Dec 2019 at 09:59 am new

Meanwhile, today is the worst day (of a very bad lot) for bushfire smoke with visibility down to about 200 metres. Sandon Point has disappeared, the escarpment long gone in the haze, and there are more people wearing smoke masks on the main street than an Asian airport.

The below is paragraph from the recent special report from the UN on climate change and food and agriculture...

cool

<script async src="//s.imgur.com/min/embed.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

So for each of those regions, the current populations are..

Sub-Saharan Africa = 996,000,000
SE-Asia = 641,000,000
Central America = 42,000,000
South America = 423,000,000

That's 2.1 billion people, in the present day.

cooooool cool cool cool....what could possibly go wrong with that...

GuySmiley Thursday, 19 Dec 2019 at 01:00 pm new

Let us remind ourselves that in the month that these fires have raged over 600 homes have been lost and much of the eastern seaboard from just south of Brisbane to Far East Gippsland has been constantly blanketed in toxic smoke haze and yet Scotty from Marketing so deeply believes now is not the time to talk about climate change he fucking well sneaks off to Hawaii for a holiday.

stunet Thursday, 19 Dec 2019 at 01:51 pm new

Right now, there's a 20km gap between Katoomba and Mount Tomah separating the Mount Gosper and Ruined Castle fires, which admittedly would be hard for a fire to bridge considering the country, yet if it did Sydney would be ringed by fire from Mount White in the north to Bargo in the far southwest.

Some areas appear under control now, while others such as the Green Wattle Creek fire near Bargo, are growing with each refresh of the RFS page.

The scale of it all is amazing.

boxright Thursday, 19 Dec 2019 at 01:59 pm new

It's crunch time now as the southerly comes up the coast and the fire crews have to time the change to stop the new fire fronts.

GuySmiley Thursday, 19 Dec 2019 at 02:11 pm new

My mate who is a Strike Force Commander in the CFA (Vic) is now in Far East Gippsland until at least Monday to protect property down there against a fire that’s been burning for over a month. He told me 100s of CFA crew have been rotated in/out of NSW now for this last month. All volunteers, all putting themselves at risk and bloody amazing Australians .... Scotty from Marketing says they want to be there!!! FFS where’s the leadership?

Thought it might be worthwhile bringing this link over from Craig on the Shivering In Sumatra thread.

https://www.bom.gov.au/climate/current/season/aus/archive/201911.summary…

Some stats to ponder:

- a temperature anomaly for Australia as a whole this Spring of +2.41 degrees above the long-term average maximum

- nationally the driest spring on record

- For Australia as a whole, it was the second-driest January–November on record, and amongst the three driest on record for New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, and the Northern Territory.

- Fifth-warmest spring on record for Australia

- second-warmest spring mean maximum temperature on record nationally

It was poor judgement for Scomo to head off on holidays, but for the NSW Emergency Minister to do the same is inexcusable! What part of his job description doesn’t he understand?! He needs to be stood down.
There was traffic chaos on the south coast yesterday after the evacuation order so where were the Police to coordinate traffic flow? The RFS are doing everything they can with the fires but they need an Emergency Minister to be here to coordinate the emergency services during an emergency!

Craig Friday, 3 Jan 2020 at 07:12 am new

I agree Distracted, this is when you're needed to be on call, 24 hours and he's away on holiday!

vascectomy-blo… Friday, 3 Jan 2020 at 08:58 am new

And when Prime Goose scomo comes back he walks around physically forcing people to shake his hand. Honestly that footage of him making the woman shake his hand when she said she didn't want to unless he'd fund the firies, and then walked away from her when she started crying... What a disgrace.

Then he grabs the left hand of the firie who wouldn't shake his hand. What planet is this guy on?

Maybe he's better off in Hawaii so he stops getting in the way.

stunet Friday, 3 Jan 2020 at 09:03 am new

Not to mention the state Lib MP saying Smoko, "got the welcome he deserved."

No call from Smoko, no support or offer of solidarity across a united front, no courtesy, just lob into his charred electorate unnanounced.

indo-dreaming Friday, 3 Jan 2020 at 09:53 am new

Best comment I've read so far on social media(Guardian YouTube video) on what Scomo should be doing in regard to leadership.

"He (Scomo) should show leadership the same way that Ardern showed leadership, which in this case would involve dressing up as a koala."

100% gold because its 100% true.

factotum Friday, 3 Jan 2020 at 09:57 am new

Hahahaha.

Shit name according to, wait for it, Lounge Lizard!

The way Scotty from Marketing is going, he's gonna add this gig to his extensive resume of failure.

Ardern didn't pay $190k to show her empathy. Scomo did and still doesn't have any.

'Scotty from marketing' is sounding a bit lame now

'Smoko' is much more cutting

hopefully one good thing that will come from all this, is the realisation that the manifestation that is contemporary PR is the devil's work

PR people are the lowest form of life on earth, the most useless counter productive unethical leeches on all of society

and scotty from marketing is one of the best

definitely not on his own though, it's the new norm, and growing...

"...Simon Bridges’s National party is no different. It was reported earlier in the year that his office now employs more social media experts than policy advisers. National seems determined to emulate the successful online advertising campaigns of conservatives in Australia and Britain. Never mind the integrity of those campaigns."

"...In fact no one will be surprised that New Zealand now has many more public relations practitioners than journalists. The latest census results show about 8,000 people work in PR, greatly overshadowing the roughly 1,600 journalists working in print and broadcasting. Other calculations have put the ratio of PR to journalists at 10:1.
Many of the PR professionals work directly for the politicians, government departments, or local government authorities. “Communications” is a booming sector of politics and government. RNZ reported this year that over the last five years public sector communications staff numbers have risen 60%. Job opportunities in political PR will doubtlessly only improve during election year.
