interesting development here, apparently the biggest political movement of our lifetimes has dwindled from over a million heads to barely 10000 in three short years, numbers totally brushed over by the media

next year there'll be 10 rabid lesbians, 2 tranny's and a dog...

arguing over a portaloo

now what could possibly be divisive enough to kill such political will so quickly?

Just as bad is the MSM’s complicity in allowing the borders to China to remain open so as not to jeopardise their Ponzi scheme.

The US , Singapore, Italy , Japan have closed their borders to China. Our ruling class is insisting that we not slight China and that we martyr the health of our nation as a means of expressing solidarity with our oriental rulers.

sypkan Saturday, 1 Feb 2020 at 02:07 pm new

how the fuck are we so stupid?

a rhetorical question with smoco at the helm...

if labor weren't so complicit and corrupted on the issue they'd be political mileage in it

My mum had ay180B and a 120Y before that.

I had a Corona once same as in that pic. Went forever but I don't know how.

sypkan Sunday, 2 Feb 2020 at 09:51 pm new

the corona definitely wins out in terms of reliability, had a mate with one with a chronic aversion to maintenance, couldn't kill the bastard

the dato's are definitely cooler though (excluding the 120y) best buzzbox rallying/2wd four wheel driver there is

Optimist Monday, 3 Feb 2020 at 05:46 am new

I had a mint Datsun 1600 in sky blue I loved in the 70's. After work I used to race my friend home every arvo down a dodgy mountain road against his 202 torana. The Datsun could 4 wheel drift like a champ so I usually won. I ended up crashing it, got it repaired like new and the insurance company said "now go find an engine for it". I went to Rallyequip at Pendle Hill in Sydney and they fitted a full blown 180B engine with all the works and insurance paid for it all. The car did 110 MPH in 3rd gear after that. Gotta love insurance companies back in the day.

zenagain Monday, 3 Feb 2020 at 10:39 am new

Great story to go with a great car. My mates older bro had a tuned (i spose in the day you'd call it souped up) 1600, it was a source of envy to us who didn't have our licenses yet.

He also had a board with a cool camo spray and 'Charlie don't Surf' sprayed on the nose.

To a 15 year old kid, Fangs (that was his nickname) older brother was way cool.

velocityjohnno Monday, 3 Feb 2020 at 11:34 am new

Nan had a brown coupe, either 120Y or E30 Corolla or similar (I was too young to know/remember which one it was) and she was once driving us on the main road between Maroochydore and Mooloolaba and some grommets (older than us) were throwing tennis balls across the highway. Windows were open as it was hot, and my little bro and I were amazed to see the tennis ball go through the car via back seat windows, and we looked back to see all the grommets celebrating. These guys are probably 50 by now and posting here on SN...

stunet Tuesday, 4 Feb 2020 at 09:52 am new

Beaten by Michael McWhomack, fortunately.

Nationals are proving a liability to the Libs, and with their recent ability to draw massive donations, far outstripping Labor, it's worth asking what it's worth to the Libs to keep the coalition going. The Nats are the only major party who rule for a small demographic, and they're even selling out those people as farmers consider the cost of climate inaction and appeasement of foreign corporations on Aussie soil, meanwhile they're scandal-plagued and weighed down by the Big Beetroot and his almighty ego.

Blowin Tuesday, 4 Feb 2020 at 10:05 am new

Australian pollies are out of control.

Apparently Scomo’s dad’s arrival at the memorial gardens required the planting of thousands of flowering plants in bloom along the driveway in the few days before his memorial.

Not quite a state funeral, but taxpayer funded indulgence nonetheless.

And then Scomo arrived from a different entrance and never even saw them.

Hail Caesar !

Lying by ommision

lying really comes easy to this cunt we call a prime minister. It comes too easy, so easy and blatant are his lies I cannot believe he gets away with it, really really cannot believe it...

but he does, and it makes me angry, so angry I want to tear shit up in the streets. a feeling I haven't felt since being an overly idealistic 20 something...

how does he get away with it?

Well for one, I blame the journalists.

Follow up on your bloody questions!

call him out. tell him he didn't even remotely answer the question. tell him he is speaking bullshit, plain and simple, in those words. tell him he is a lying cunt!

but they don't, they're all too bloody polite, too caught up in the contemporary journalist's MO, too caught up in accepting the 'weasel words' Don Watson warned of years ago, too caught up in upper middle class conventions of conversation that make it virtually near impossible to get near the crux of any issue. too bloody politically correct!

I also blame labor, if they weren't so abysmal - a level of abysmal they have inhabited for many years - they'd be tearing this government apart. this government is so corrupt and pathetic they should be easy for the taking. but they are not, it's like they are coated in teflon, impervious to criticism. they are getting away with murder while the country literally burns. a good opposition is just as important as a good government. and labor has failed miserably in both of these roles for way too long

for fucks sake labor get your bloody shit together!!!

sort out your priorities, clean your bloody house, sack your dead wood, cull your fucking morons. you are a pack of impotent benchongs

wheel out Paul Keating if you must. give him a day's guest appearance in question time and hold this fucked up government to account.

yorkesurfer hit the nail on the head with a comment on here a few months ago, labor is fundamentally failing the working people of Australia, and have done so for far too long

sort your bloody shit you pack of fucking morons!

Perfect storm Syppo.

- Two party system that has devolved into a corporatocracy

- associated control of media

- highly sophisticated psychological manipulation of populace aided by above points

- social conditioning which has made society (and journalists) too polite to really call pollies to account

- casualisation of work which adds into the above point

- a post-truth society where people don’t know what to believe and/or are happy to “create their own reality”

And on and on.
I’m with you, I want to tear shit up.
Sad to say that I was working at the same time and place as Anna Bligh’s visit the other day - being sacked for heckling just wasn’t on my agenda.
Did what I could though, gathered groups of fellow employees and tried to express what Bligh was all about and why she should be held in the same amount of contempt as many other current and ex politicians.

Remember when it was “ Our “ ABC.

Now it’s more concerned with the plight of inconveniented Chinese than it is for the lives of Australians.

Wouldn’t it be a shame if the girl in the story couldn’t attend her job at the barrister’s office and they instead gave it to an Australian citizen ? It’s so heavy that they might miss units of their studies just because they may spread a potentially catastrophic pandemic into our country.

Apparently they’ve got a change.org petition circulating to reverse the decision by the Australian government to prioritise Australian lives over a temporary upset to their education. It had 11000 signatures a few hours ago.

How does get fucked sound ?

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-02-03/coronavirus-has-stranded-chinese…

This is the scum we let into the country. Not a single iota of concern for Australians.

The ABC story isn't an op ed. It's not "favouring" the students but telling us what some of them think. It's up to the reader to cast judgement.

Blowin Tuesday, 4 Feb 2020 at 03:47 pm new

That what any country which hasn’t been insidiously compromised by a foreign government would do. It’s what any country with a shred of self respect would do.

Blowin Tuesday, 4 Feb 2020 at 03:50 pm new

AndyM Tuesday, 4 Feb 2020 at 03:51 pm new

Dunno Simba, it was always going to take a major catalyst to provoke serious demands for wholesale political change.

Not sure if the bushfires are it and it very much looks like the LNP are so emboldened that they’ll shrug off any demands and/or pork belly their way out of trouble years in the future when Jo Average has forgotten about the fires and is being spoon fed the next big thing.

Really don’t know what it’s going to take.

We’ve already got an entrenched working poor, that wasn’t it, selling the country to the highest bidder hasn’t caused much of s stir, blatant corruption, massive fires and the political indifference to them...

Glimmer of hope?

Fuck knows. Can’t see one at the moment.

Blowin Tuesday, 4 Feb 2020 at 03:58 pm new

It's a yellow vest moment.

It's easy to portray Smoko as an incompetent leader, the worst since McMahon, a living mouth-breathing example of the Peter Principle - elevated one level above his abilities - but that gormlessness comes with a lot of baggage, just look at the filthy donations list, the cosy relationship with the Minerals Council where cabinet members and paid lobbyists swap jobs, and his Faustian bargain with the RWNJs. Calling him incapable is polite, but the truth is he's a liability.

Never have we more needed a leader and instead we get this dolt.

Their educations can wait a little while. Besides, isn't it possible nowadays to do entire lectures and tutes online? The truth of this virus is somewhere between the official govt stats and the shocking footage and papers being retweeted (R0 4.08, HIV RNA?!), so precaution is warranted.

stunet Tuesday, 4 Feb 2020 at 04:08 pm new

"Armed revolution it is."

I've got a plastic rake and a too-small bike helmet, plus if the uprising can wait just a week or two I might be able to make a really hot chilli acid...you know, brew it up and maybe throw it at anyone who confronts us while we're doing our chant thing.

velocityjohnno Tuesday, 4 Feb 2020 at 04:11 pm new

yellow vest moment is when the working class rises up, can't see that happening here at present. Most of the working class just voted liberal too, to either protect their primary industry jobs or keep the NG/super landscape familiar. Nowhere near yellow vest moment, which in France was triggered by Macron going after the working class trying to put 20% carbon tax extra on diesel and banning diesel in towns and cities

"Not sure if the bushfires are it and it very much looks like the LNP are so emboldened that they’ll shrug off any demands and/or pork belly their way out of trouble years in the future when Jo Average has forgotten about the fires and is being spoon fed the next big thing."

they are emboldened alright, by a pitiful pathetic showing by the oz labor party. they are so emboldened, their arrogance is nauseating to say the least. normally this arrogance would be their downfall, under current circumstances, it appears they're going to get away with it

once again, I hate to say it, but even with all the fuck ups, lies, and corruption, if given an either/or choice, I still could not bring myself to vote for labor in their current form

I thought albo could bring a glimmer of hope, but from what I've seen estrogen boy is no better than shorten

as a whole, they are just as pathetic as ever. they should just all shut up and let penny wong take the lead and talk for the whole party, ....scomo style...

Nationals MP for Gippsland, Darren Chester: “I want to offer an apology to the Australian people … To those people who are suffering the consequences of drought or bushfires, on a day when the parliament is due to debate a condolence motion on bushfires … to have us talking about ourselves is deeply embarrassing."

Pupkin Tuesday, 4 Feb 2020 at 04:35 pm new

Australians must like the Liberal party. They've won more elections and been in power federally more times than they haven't, since they were formed post World War II. Coupled with the Nationals, who've been around for a hundred years, they must be speaking to and for the majority of Australians.

Election results tell us this.

Don't they?
