We can barely keep electricity affordable despite having some of the largest gas and coal reserves in the world. Our political leaders, from Keating, to Howard, to Rudd/Gillard/Rudd/Abbot/Turnbull/Scotty from marketing. All they have achieved is the dismantling of Australian sovereignty. They have exported our security and turned us into a tributary state. People will die, not just from the virus, but from all the secondary complications caused by supply issues and overloaded hospitals. It is these people, their corporate overlords, and their media mates, who have traded the wealth of this country for beans.
They will not be affected by this. Their families are protected. Yours are not.”

Well Balance when Rudd trialed an open border type policy we had about 18,000 people arrive in a year or less, before he did a 360 degree flip on policy.
How many people would that have snowballed to now if policy had not been changed?
Nobody knows but its fair to say it would be a lot more than 18,000 could be in hundreds to thousands, and if it was still allowed it would be IMPOSSIBLE to close borders like we have.
It's taken us years to get the situation truely under control, but yeah if you think it wouldn't be an issue in this kind of circumstance and a stretch well, i really dont know what to say, its pretty obvious how problematic it would now be.

I am both gob smacked and impressed that the government is going to double the fortnightly income for welfare recipients by $550 for 6 months. Obviously they are listening to the experts who recognise that those people will spend the money they get in the real economy, and this will greatly help the economy to keep functioning on life support.
Until it's in their bank accounts it's just empty pollie promises. I suspect they'll make it difficult for eligibles to claim too, in the hope that many will simply put it in the too hard basket. Forgive my cynicism, but this government seems to demonstrate time and time again that all that matters is a budget surplus and protecting big business, hope I'm wrong.

Im all for a two week lockdown and for people to then restrict other aspects within reason and social distancing, changing habits etc
But if things dragged on longer and people cant work and business go under and kids cant go to school, it's going to fuck everyone over, the effects are going to be irreversible, almost everyone is going to be ficked over.
It's almost better if it cant be controlled in the next few weeks to just say okay lets try to still minimise its impact but we will just have to let it runs it's course, people will die, the health system may become overwhelmed, but end of the day the majority will get through okay.
If it goes the way its going the majority are going to be fucked over financially.

There’s two conflicting narratives which dictate the reality of this virus :
1/ The China figures are accurate .
80,000 infected for 3000 dead. In a population of 1600,000,000 people this is so insignificant as to not even justify a headline anywhere except China. So why did China shut down and why are we following suit ?
2/ The China figures are pure NumberWang*
Fake Chinese stats are undermining every attempt to lend gravity to the virus. If the disease is truly horrific then the world should be united in our defence. Unfortunately this effort is impossible because many people see the 3000 deaths from China as evidence that the issue is overblown and they act ( or fail to act ) accordingly.
If the virus is truly devastating then governments need to publicly address the figures from China. Otherwise people just see Italy as an unrepresentative outlier. They may not wish to offend China , but if China is so obviously not giving a fuck about the world by continuously lying about a deadly virus then there is nothing to gain by preserving any sentiment towards them. The Chinese statistics are the reason that people don’t take the virus seriously.

Apparently no one was getting tested in Wuhan for weeks. The authorities were persecuting anyone who dared suggest that it was an issue. It was allowed to run rampant unchecked through entire cities. Worse than Italy . Worse than here.
