New Victoria restrictions
No, closed since Stage 3 came in back in July! It was open during Victoria's brief period of semi-freedom (Stage 2) for about 3-4 weeks from memory.
Stage 4 is finished 13th of Sept....there's talk of extending stage 4, or maybe reverting to stage 3 for god knows how long. To be honest not sure how much longer i can take before I pack up and move - and never look back!

Seriously though, It is like two different worlds in one country....Melb winters are usually harsh but there's normally is a beauty about them too. The thing that worked about Melbourne was how easy it was to escape it when needed - for the coast, the mountains, wherever. This winter is just shit. And - to see friends and family in effectively all other states of Australia carrying on as if Covid was a minor inconvenience is jarring. There was a brief period where it seemed NSW and the rest of Aus were on a knife's edge - but they haven't gone anywhere near where we are down here in terms of control.
It's just hard to convey just how shit no school, childcare, compulsory mask wearing, curfews and 5km restrictions really are.

Good summary Stok. It's absolutely surreal seeing the rest of Australia just get on with life.
Some days I'm fine, some days I feel completely suffocated and I despair at not being able to do anything. It really is a rollercoaster of feelings that impacts me more than I expected.
It's not even surfing that I'm missing anywhere near as much as I thought I would, it's just the ability to do anything at all in the outdoors. The 5km radius limit and 1 hour limit outdoors each day is what I am hoping is the first restriction to be eased, knowing that come Sept 13th there's still going to be too many cases to open back up too much.
I'm not desperate to get back to pubs, bars, restaurants, the office etc, I don't even give a shit about the 8pm curfew, I just want to be able to go do some stuff on the weekends, see my kids spend time with my family.

Yeh I think that's where I'm at. I'm more easily frustrated these days, I have sensed a genuine change in my mood in the last week or two which tells me the negative thoughts are starting to win.
I think we are all feeling it Dx3. Hang in there, if we all keep doing the right thing we will get back to normal, soon hopefully.
I'm definitely more frustrated, less patient of late...not nice stuff really. I'm lucky to have a family here with me to at least talk to/laugh with/hug etc. Really feel for some colleagues I know who are single, live alone and have family interstate - you'd be starved for any attention/affection.

I think I might see a little problem with your argument.
Problem being that scared , old people who still have their freedom insist that everyone else forfeits their lives . Everything should be reopened. There’s not even an advantage to uncrowded coastlines with the lockdown anymore. The lockdown has been worth it if it’s second order effects remain permanent ie halting the mass immigration Ponzi which is destroying Australia. Unfortunately, the Ponzi will soon enough recommence at warp pace .
Public are being sold a dud. There is no plan . The virus is so overhyped it’s ridiculous. There isn’t even an attempt at any scientific justification for the most extreme restrictions.
Repeat : If you are vulnerable then protect yourself. Isolate , social distance , mask etc. Everyone else should be free to live their lives.
Ignore the shouty voices of the scared old people who want you to waste your life so they don’t face a minute risk . I say that as someone with relatives who have existing health issues in addition to just old age.

While trying hard to be positive through lockdown I suspected it would come to this. Self interest and political opportunism in conflict with what the science says. So we may see the strength or otherwise of the glue that binds us into a functioning community, gee you just have to look at Nth America right now to see the pointy end to where this sort of talk leads us.
As a matter of perspective our great grand and grandparents went through the Spanish flu pandemic, the influenza pandemic, WW1, the great depression, WW2 and the Korean War.
I'm with DSDS thinking a temporary halt to immigration is perhaps one of the few positives out of Covid19, another would be how homeless people are being looked after after decades of governments telling us that it wasn't possible.
The immigration numbers Australia was running are not sustainable in any sense and Covid19 gives Australia an excellent opportunity to reset especially with the expected deep recession and high number of Australian citizens out of work.

The fact is there's experts which sit on pretty much all increments of the political spectrum. Depending on your views, chances are you can back up your opinion by finding an expert you like.
If there's a consensus between experts, and if you oppose this consensus, there'll be another expert out there talking about some form of conspiracy, or collusion for financial gains between the consensus group (which does happen - think NOPSEMA).
So essentially, unless you're an expert yourself, gone are the days you can simply have a discussion with someone and believe you're right for listening to the experts, because chances are the other persons thinking the same thing.
Frustratingly, the skill/knowledge of experts these days is usually overshadowed by their ability to be outspoken, social media savvy and generally convincing in their production of information.

The median age of COVID deaths in Victoria is 83 years old . Data from overseas shows that even amongst the aged , 94 percent of COVID deaths are in those with other serious health problems.

Just watched the press release from Dan Andrews and I really feel for how victorians are going to once again pay for others stupidity. Not sure how they are going to police the 1 hour exercise policy but a trip down the coast for a surf could be costly. I understand these new restrictions are mainly Melbourne suburbs and I’m very grateful for where I live NSW Qld border. When we were in shutdown there was no time limit for our exercise thank god as a 3 hour surf kept me sane after losing my job.
