Love it AW.
All good here, sounds like you’ve been keeping busy.
Wallace sounds like an incredible man.
Imagine Lombok and Bali back in those days.
Hard to believe how different to today Indonesia would have been.
G-land just reeling off with only the Javan tigers and leopards to watch it. Ughhhhh
Anyone got a time travel machine???

Goofyfoot. Hi.

Oh, how relevant your comment, last night I only just finished reading Mike Ritter & Jack McCoys book , Grajagan, Surfing in the Tiger’s Lair, bloody good read, highly recommend it, they made it feel like you were there.

I’ve decided I’m going there soon, you’ve been from memory.
I’d love to hear your perspective, the natural world side of it sounds incredible, so do the waves. Good stuff. AW

IslandBay. Hi.

Well you better call Simon Jones and Torren Martyn and pass on that information.

When they were recently on our coast and had a discussion forum at the Aireys Inlet Pub, regarding board dimensions, they were asked a question by a member of the audience.

Do you alter design and board thickness of a favoured board model depending upon whether you are predominantly surfing it in cold or warm water ?

Answer, definitely do and thanks for asking such a great question. AW

interesting, hey? perceived or real, Beau Foster on moving down to Vic:
"...adapting to surfing down here has been interesting, and especially shaping. I was excited when I moved down here because the waves are different... not only the waves, but even the water's different. It's a lot heavier and dense down here." (SW423)

GuySmiley Wednesday, 3 Jul 2024 at 01:55 pm new

“It’s a lot heavier and dense down here."

I’ve heard that said many times before locally and took it with a grain of salt until I started surfing in tropical water … perhaps to do with water temp?

A Wet 4x3 = how many Kilos ...?

Just done a test for you Udo. Dry Needs limestone 4:3 in XLT, 1.4 KG, after the surf and walk back up the beach (so drained of excess water) 3.4 kg, out of the tub after rinsing, 4.4 kg.

Blackers. Hi.

Great citizen science work going on there.

That weight doesn’t surprise me at all. AW

goofyfoot Thursday, 4 Jul 2024 at 09:04 am new

So 3 kilos approximately heavier while you’re surfing.
That’s quite a big weight difference

That is why I prefer my dawn patrol 3/2 over my more expensive flash bombs, the lining is less plush and holds less H2O. Had a 4/3 a few years back, never again. At my age I need all the advantages I can get. I always have a dump before heading out, there is a couple of kilos less also.

Old dog is onto it. :)
GF, that is for a lot of wetsuit, will be less for smaller suits. I’m not sure that a rough 3% extra weight makes that big a difference to my surfing but I do tend to go larger volumes when it’s winter. That is more due to fading fitness and the drain from paddling in the thicker rubber. The water also feels more viscous compared to summer or tropical water as Guy mentioned above. When I get a chance I will compare with a 3:2.

Blackers. Hi mate.

From another perspective, I like the fact that my wetsuits are heavier in Winter, certainly builds up your paddling power, arms and shoulders and ultimately fitness via an increased cardiovascular system workout.
I find Winter is a good training ground prior to an Indo trip. AW

Heya AW, been thinking along these lines. it is just personal experience built up over time. If someone has spent decades frothing towards the first-cold-water-down-the-back-of-the-neck duckdive with the resistance-bands effect of a wetty, it becomes part of the joy. Flopping around, resistance-free, in warm water is a very nice holiday, but it's just not the same. (Also explains why, when you take a northern cousin out for a great session, they'll say cordially through chattering teeth, arms burning, 'yeh.. it was.. fun...' )

No need

The stabilised twin is better to grovel on, when the swell gets thicker and moving a bit faster then a Trusta fin set can StepUp a bit...

Machado looks so good on that. Watching No Salad is like fingernails on a blackboard.

poo-man Friday, 12 Jul 2024 at 09:41 pm new

Looks like a good high tide manu board or high tide beach

More Cado

freeride76 Saturday, 13 Jul 2024 at 08:27 am new

Problem is: Machado makes every board look like that.

Most unrelatable pro ever IMO.

He's absolutely tiny IRL- has the body of a pre-teen girl. Tiny little rubbery body with no muscle mass or extra weight whatsoever.
Very, very few adult males have that flexibility.

Having said that- looks like a really nice groveller outline.

Island Bay Saturday, 13 Jul 2024 at 09:35 am new

True, just commenting on the stark difference between Machado's flow and speed and Noel S with his robotic crap style.

velocityjohnno Saturday, 13 Jul 2024 at 12:56 pm new

Looks like a hypto krypto grew a square tail and went twin + trailer. The 'introducing' vid above, 1:26:1:27 watch the turn and it skip out, I know how I'd be going on that...

The rails look sweet from deck rear 3/4 perspective, down railed almost.

All very true but I have owned a couple of his designs from FireWire and found them really fun. No way I surf anyway like him but they feel good under foot, and I am taller than most and weigh in the mid 90’s. They have good flow..

All Draft Models up on Kerrzys Utube

stunet Wednesday, 17 Jul 2024 at 08:21 am new

Seven models and only one has a Thruster option. Five of them are twin only models. One assym quad.

Assuming it's an Album franchise without the Album name?

goofyfoot Wednesday, 17 Jul 2024 at 08:48 am new

It sounds like it’s Josh’s own company to me. Not 100% on that though

udo Wednesday, 17 Jul 2024 at 08:54 am new

Sure is
https://draftsurf.com/ And Draft new Head Quarters @ 5.1 mill Pad on DBah Hill that needs Paying for

stunet Wednesday, 17 Jul 2024 at 08:53 am new

OK, little bit puzzling. Name aside, it's an almost identical take on Album surfboards: designs, aesthetics, where they sit in the marketplace, who they appeal to.

Don't know about the price point yet.

Either way, it's an interesting bit of marketing.

goofyfoot Wednesday, 17 Jul 2024 at 09:04 am new

Yeah, full rip off from Album it looks from the outside.

And Kerr was Album's first big name rider wasn't he?
