I stepped into a black hole last night, spent a few hours listening to the sounds of UK electro-rock bands from the late-80s/early-90s. Goaties, dreads on white boys, drum machines. Few good tunes but the whole scene should remain a void of anti-matter where light and, even better, sound, can't escape:

I thought the 70s roxy music days (Ferry/Eno/Manzanera) were very influential...... A big influence on talking heads and split enz to name two bands....

Can't agree Stu, I would swap all those bands ( except The Animals) for Nick Cave and The Drones. Throw in Cold Chisel, The Easybeats, The Saints, You Am I, Sunnyboys, Yothu Yindi and Radio Birdman and I think we are ahead on points per population! So going back to Ben's original post

Listening to Lee Scratch Perry Arkology, which, being a comprehesive box set, involves sitting through multiple remixes of the same song. Not too sure of the big picture cultural worth of those Jamaicans - have they had continued cultural success? Hmmm - but it's good music for a detached state of mind.
Nice work. It's been a good day - a cultural success if you will- at least I haven't found myself thrown in the back of a paddy wagon and all the required shopping has been accomplished.
Might reward myself with a mild slice of mental detachment and some sweet music for the return trip.
Think I'll start with The Scientists- Swampland and play it by feel from there.

Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.
Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.
