Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.

Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.

now come on Facto....you had a biggie last night...
time for your early to bed tune son..

Just remember.....the reasons we had a pencil in the glove box in the old days was....
1. write weekly letters to mum...
2. twirl the mangled cassettes...
This song is so so true........

2nd verse, same as the first.

Why am I thinking of this?

Goldie Punkz spot blackers eyeing off Megzee's Only Ones...
Here's that original Punk Play list order...

"Another Girl Another Planet" > "Where's Captain Kirk" - Athletico Spizz 80

Hang On!

'90's Punkz crash "Girl from Mars" - Ash (Obvious- Only Ones Rip / Bookend)

This is the updated Punk Sci Fi Party Play as voted by screaming yelling piss heads.

*Another Girl Another Planet - Only Ones (Thanks to crew)

* Girl from Mars - Ash
Oldschool Punkz are onboard with that...will even spin it for the Punk Gromz.

Ok! So that's a cool song & a perfect fit.. but now can we play...
* "Where's Captain Kirk" - Spizzles.

blackers Wednesday, 18 Nov 2020 at 11:11 am new

Love your work TBB. Saw Ash tour that album when in London. Have to follow up the Spizz 80 link. Keep on rocking mate.

thermalben Wednesday, 18 Nov 2020 at 11:35 am new

Ash! There's a blast from the past. Loved their first mini-album Trailer when it came out ('95?), drove them around Adelaide and did stage on their Free All Angels tour around '02. Disappointingly small crowd though. Haven't really followed them since though.

I saw Ash and we are scientists play a show in Melb around 10 years ago.
Rehashing the 90s
Sold out.
A lot of Irish in attendance.
It was a good show. From memory both bands got up together and played a few covers in the encore - touch me I'm sick, this charming man and I think there was another.

thermalben Wednesday, 18 Nov 2020 at 12:03 pm new

Yeah same when I saw Foals at the Enmore - I reckon the venue was 3/4 filled with expat Brits. Bloody good show though.

truebluebasher Wednesday, 18 Nov 2020 at 12:20 pm new

blackers scores bonus Punk Sci Fi playlist cont...

Flying Saucer Attack-Rezillos (Backs up Spizzles / Multi Band name changes)

Planet Claire - The B52's (Follows as cross continental Retro Chix Act)

Rock on the Moon - The Cramps (Retro US Chix companions)

Ok! So now Captain Kirk is beaming down to crash tbb's Punk Sci Fi party

"Outta my way you...this is how to Punk out the Cramps!"
Garbageman - Captain Kirk

Let that be a lesson Gromz ...never let '60's Sci Fi idols crash yer Sci Fi Punk Party.

blackers Wednesday, 18 Nov 2020 at 12:36 pm new

Ah the Rezillos, was listening to "Top of the Pops" just the other day.
Gotta love the little nuggets that turn up when you select shuffle on your player of choice.

indo-dreaming Sunday, 29 Nov 2020 at 02:06 pm new

I have a confession. I've been listening to these guys of late, i use to hate them, my flatmates flogged them and i hated all that drop D stuff at the time, plus they were too Triple J for me at the time as i only ever use to listen to RRR & 3PBS (public radio), but last week i grabbed their CD and threw it in the car for a listen and i cant help but love those riffs now, funny how your taste can change, maybe ive heard them so many times and even though i thought i still would really like them, just knowing the songs nostalgia takes over and even the bad seems good.

Why did i own it to start with?...honestly dont know why, i just use to buy so many CD's so no real surprise.

I had a nice tradition going for ages when I’d get on the return flight to Oz from Indo , belt this song through the headphones and peer out the window whilst sipping on a cold beer and commence mentally replaying the highlights of the waves I’d just been catching.

It’s so evocative now that I feel like I’ve just scored whenever I hear it even if I haven’t been in the water for a while.

Epic

Saw Grinspoon @ Barwon Heads a couple of years back. Slow to start, but fuck they put on a good show. Phil Jamieson great entertainer.

indo-dreaming Sunday, 29 Nov 2020 at 04:53 pm new

They were pretty decent live (i guess still are), i did see them a few times dragged along by mates.

I actually met the guitarist once Pat i think, he was going out with a friend of mine and we were at the Edge on the Goldie, was just us two and a few girls sitting at a table, soo in that scenario blokes normally stick together and have a good chat, but he wasn't overly friendly, maybe he thought my friendliness was because i was a fan, but i didnt even know who he as until a friend told me when he went to the bar.

I wouldn't say he was arrogant or rude but just not that friendly, but hey he could have just been having a bad night or maybe just didnt like the look of me or something, i wasn't pissed though or dribbling shit, as had only just started drinking.

Never saw him again they only lasted a few weeks, she had a nice body but not that attractive and she was a bit annoying so no surprise im sure he could have done much better.

icandig Sunday, 29 Nov 2020 at 05:42 pm new

Ha ha. Weird digression indo. "Nice body, not that attractive, could've done better." I guess if you can play guitar in a semi famous band, you can have the pick of the bunch?

So good live

indo-dreaming Sunday, 29 Nov 2020 at 07:03 pm new

@icandig

Ha ha yeah maybe a weird thing to say, it's just the thought at the time that i still remember well, like why on earth is this guy with this girl.

It was mid 90s so they were pretty popular at the time, i could understand if she was a cool chick with personality, but she was just a real bitch, only reason she was a friend was because i was good friends with her best friend.

factotum Sunday, 29 Nov 2020 at 07:11 pm new

Whatever pelican. Weren't you stuck in the Palmy ghetto next to crack converters, dole bludging, smoking leaf, selling and sampling shit speed (no needles, but...maybe)?

Anyway, the Iron Mike/Roy Jones Jr fight had Snoop as the main pre-bout entertainment. A one man smoke machine.

One of the groms at the pub put us on to this:

indo-dreaming Sunday, 29 Nov 2020 at 07:18 pm new

There was quite a few Aussie bands that got played on triple J in the 90s that at the time i was like these guys are shit as i was into more obscure stuff, but now with streaming ill just chuck a few songs in a mix of these bands that i remember.

Some havent stood the test of time so well, but some are a lot better than i remember and see's me adding more of their songs to a mix.

I will probably never bother going to the effort of seeing these bands live if they are still playing or even listen to an album back to back, but its still cool to rediscover music or songs you thought you didnt dig that much, but somehow you like more now.

indo-dreaming Sunday, 29 Nov 2020 at 07:19 pm new

The nostalgia trip has been almost as fun as first time around indo. Seeing bands going around for the second and third times in places we went to back in the day is a trip. Many of the same faces show up and it's a reunion of sorts. Of course the Gold Coast has ripped down two of it's best venues. RIP Playroom and Patch. Many of the same places remain standing in Vicco and bands have revisited. I've seen plenty at these venues including Tumbleweed, Grinspoon, Sunnyboys, Superjesus, Hoodoo Gurus even Accadacca and Angels (with Doc Neeson - but quite a while ago now) - even got to see Chilli Peppers. Maybe a bit too mainstream for some of the punters on here, but great to get on the beers with familiar faces and relive old times. Hangovers are brutal at my age though.

icandig Sunday, 29 Nov 2020 at 08:45 pm new

Oh yeah. And painters and dockers (backing Sunnyboys) at the Torquay pub.
