I heart WOTD

The wave of the day does it for me big time. Nice work Steen Barnes , Shaun Anderson and Swellnet.
In one photo you've encompassed everything nice about surfing. If I was a wanker I'd say that it was perfect except for the fact he is in a wetsuit. Which it is , it's perfect .....except for the fact he's in a wetsuit.

Personal question AW? (Just joshing)
I'm an XL - 6.1 and weighing in at around 90 kilos plus or minus.

Come on down.
We're a friendly bunch down here.
Everyone except the ones playing banjo.

Had a surf down that way in the 70's with Shirley from Skyhooks, he was a good bloke and only too willing to show us around. Bit chilly in the 3/2 this time of year, might give it a miss.

Supafreak Sunday, 9 Jun 2024 at 04:55 am

@olddog , it’s early hours and I’m sitting on the bog , back in the day I used to surf gulls rock . One time at band camp , I got a purple tube at 3.00 am full moon on clearlight acid . Other times me and a mate would surf gulls, splitting the break , me on one side him on the other , with 30 minutes period between 1 ft waves . We were young and keen and eventually woke up that waves sucked in this area and it was time to put the thumb out and move on .

icandig Sunday, 9 Jun 2024 at 06:53 am

lol @supa - flashback?

old-dog Sunday, 9 Jun 2024 at 09:31 am

@ supa, I did exactly the same thing in about '75, only it was at Pondalowie Bay, seeing the moon through the lip as it threw over your head was quite a psychedelic experience, and the trips were called half moons. When you wiped out in the dark you expected to get grabbed by a shark any second and were back on your board without even getting wet. The less said about the rock the better, except that I had it pumping, pure glass last week with only two out, it's all about timing. It keeps you going in between trips away, and at my age it's a good place to retire. Cheers.

@old-dog , good on ya mate , the rock is a memory I will always cherish , beautiful scenery and a great shaped wave .

Icandig. All good. Didn’t me to sound too intrusive.
I’m the world’s most avid recycler, I’ve shit loads of wetsuits I’d like to give away.
I can’t stand the fact I’ve got them in tubs just sitting here.

Unfortunately for you, cos I think you’re on the SCoast, the sizes are medium and small in steamers, some vests, spring suits, booties, tropical and cold etc.
If you know any young ones or adults who are small- to medium and want a wettie that is still in reasonable condition we can meet somewhere. All the best.AW

GuySmiley Sunday, 9 Jun 2024 at 02:53 pm

^^ rip curl will recycle all the wetsuits but not the booties

GuySmiley. Hi mate. Yes they do, I but I’d rather find a home for them so as to be reused and not become immediate waste

I saw the Rip Curl waste bin years ago, disgusting amount of neoprene waste going off to landfill. I hope that has changed. AW

Bnkref. Hi mate , hope ya well.

Me too, I’ll find a home for all that rubber.

I was thinking today at first light with despair as that SW wind arrived half a day early, most likely I will end up putting them in a box in either the Winki or Boobs car park, I’m sure they’ll get picked by others. AW

blackers Sunday, 9 Jun 2024 at 08:36 pm

Hey Alfred, why don’t you contact one of your local schools/ youth clubs? Down your way I am sure some would run a surf program and could use them.

Blackers. Hi mate. How’s things ?
Great idea. No clue today, was up at 5am, no surf, brain dead, my body needs its endorphin fix and it didn’t get it. Oh well, Thursday looking alright, at the moment, that girly influencer , La Niña, she’s working on something I reckon. AW

icandig Sunday, 9 Jun 2024 at 10:10 pm

Thanks for the offer AW. Like you, I have too many old wetties sitting around ready to give away. I found one from a couple of years ago that I had the chest zip fixed up on. I'll give it a try before I shell out for a new one. I'd also like to offload mine to a worthy cause. Rip curl probably shred them - not sure.

Island Bay Monday, 10 Jun 2024 at 08:18 am

Very hard to relate to. So so heavy

Craig Monday, 10 Jun 2024 at 09:35 am

Such a crazy wave and capture, so thick! Sequence is nuts.

Solitude Tuesday, 11 Jun 2024 at 06:44 pm

Did he make it?

basesix Tuesday, 11 Jun 2024 at 09:14 pm

if he was on a bigger board and dropping in on a wave, not in the air, he has a bit of the lachie rombouts rubbery spider thing going on.

GuySmiley Wednesday, 12 Jun 2024 at 08:47 am

…. my signature backhand stance :)

saurusv1 Wednesday, 12 Jun 2024 at 11:07 am

Mine too, but sometimes find it difficult to get back into a standing position! (I'm an old fella!)

GuySmiley Thursday, 13 Jun 2024 at 09:59 am

Is that the wave Dave Parmenter surfed in one of the Kidman movies by any chance? The way it’s breaking near those cliff faces looks familiar

GuySmiley Friday, 14 Jun 2024 at 05:21 pm

What a cracker today

basesix Friday, 14 Jun 2024 at 05:28 pm

what's going on over at don n's site?

Some muscle against the Crypto Bros I think.

Steve and Wyre should be plenty.

batfink Monday, 17 Jun 2024 at 08:14 am

Today’s WOTD is just mesmerising.

What a shot, what an absolute beast of a wave.

A proper cold water wave today. Needs a bit to get going too.

GuySmiley Monday, 24 Jun 2024 at 08:28 am

Bnkref Monday, 24 Jun 2024 at 03:06 pm

Basesix. Hi mate, He sure would. Less than five minutes from where he use to live.
Has since moved a little further from there, but it’s never too far on that land mass

B6, I recall around 20 years ago, a very young Julian Wilson and Jack Perry surfed with me and my bro either New Years Day or around that time with nobody else around in sublime 4-6ft conditions. On that day I counted 11 peaks from one end of that stretch of pristine sand to the other. When it’s on, it’s on, etched in my memory.AW

stunet Thursday, 27 Jun 2024 at 03:34 pm

I reckon Luke Griffin's shaper might be pleased to see how his craft is performing in today's WOTD.

Great study of matching curves.

udo Thursday, 27 Jun 2024 at 04:19 pm

Today's by Luke is dreamy!
