Sunny and nice warm (relative) blustery winds here today. You've got to enjoy the warmth when it comes.

So, is this thread now the political one? That would be a shame. Can we keep the political discussion in the political threads? Maybe Stu can enable visible text for all the other threads on the front page, but if it's the political stuff then only the username making the comment?

(Agree GS btw)

AndyM Monday, 10 Jun 2019 at 01:06 pm new

Was wondering the same thing VJ, this thread seems to have been requisitioned.

AndyM Monday, 10 Jun 2019 at 01:13 pm new

Politics and good news!

Dunno if this has got a run on Swellnet but to me it's an exemplary bit of leadership - she's on $AU 425,000 so it seems like a great call.

"New Zealand politicians have decided they're already paid pretty well and will urgently introduce a law blocking their own wage rise, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says."

& here's a beautiful story:

what a kindness and what a response.

Blowin Monday, 10 Jun 2019 at 04:58 pm new

Good on you VJ

velocityjohnno Monday, 10 Jun 2019 at 05:17 pm new

Thank you Blowin. I've got more.

We're all obsessed with sandbanks here, right? Well, check this out:

VJ I’ve never seen a pufferfish in lycra in the sand dunes.

The real reason for having Surfing Reserves...

stunet Tuesday, 11 Jun 2019 at 08:31 am new

"What is this shirt?"

"Bought it the other day."

"What the hell is the image on it? An angel holding a bloody dagger..?"

"It's a surfboard label, they use a lot of religious iconography, pretty subversive too."

"Not only is it ugly, it's derivavtive. Caravaggio did that 500 years ago. Are you gonna get a tribal tattoo as well?"

Safe to say the wife won't be borrowing my new Gash shirt.

Blowin Tuesday, 11 Jun 2019 at 08:50 am new

If you were going to get a tribal tattoo, which tribe would you go for ?

Maori ? Noongar ? Korubo ? Maasai ? Boston Irish ? Revesby Houso ?

I’m thinking of getting my Telstra contract number inked across my forearm as it represents the most unifying subgroup in Australia today. We’ve clearly won the turf war over those Optus fucktards .

Modern allegiances.

Daily good news ? Suns out , wind is light and everyone has gone back to work ....what’s not to love ?

AndyM Tuesday, 11 Jun 2019 at 09:20 am new

Haha, sounds brutal Stu, she's clearly not someone to be trifled with.

Calling it subversive must have been like a red rag to a bull.

fuhrious Tuesday, 11 Jun 2019 at 12:53 pm new

I’d have asked if you’d bought another “red” board with the T shirt!

factotum Tuesday, 11 Jun 2019 at 02:10 pm new

Wow, Stunet, tough supervisor. And because of that tee-o?

How would you go with this one, ya reckon?

https://i.ibb.co/V3DqVrd/big-black-t.jpg

And re: 'fake tribal' tough stickers, surely the two biggest tribes sporting them in Oz, the 'Steroidal Gym Monkeys' and 'FIFO Grubby Subbies', deserve a mention?

The good news?

They do inter-marry.

Actually, I dunno what kind of news that is.

Modern allegiances, indeed!

thermalben Tuesday, 11 Jun 2019 at 02:04 pm new

I've got one of these shirts. My wife refuses to accompany me outside the house when it's worn.

Funny thing is it looks like a doom-metal band, but they're just a bunch of guitar indie nerds.

factotum Tuesday, 11 Jun 2019 at 02:09 pm new

Cool band, Ben.

I find this one more problematic to wear in general public spaces than the Big Black one!

Dunno why?!

indo-dreaming Tuesday, 11 Jun 2019 at 05:49 pm new

Talking about T-shirts one thing that did impress me about the new Labor leader is a pic of him in a Celibate riffles T-Shirt when young.

GuySmiley Tuesday, 11 Jun 2019 at 09:47 pm new

Old mate had a black T-shirt made up, in big yellow letters on the back he had security printed on the front insecurity. He wore it well being a black belt.

Craig Wednesday, 12 Jun 2019 at 04:33 pm new

The moon always grabs me, I got this image yesterday evening as the sun set..

velocityjohnno Wednesday, 12 Jun 2019 at 05:35 pm new

I did exactly the same thing Craig, pulled out the binoculars to check out the moon as the light began to fade. Sun was below the tree line here, but still shining brightly on the moon which made those craters in the top of the image stand out quite starkly. Almost perfect half moon.

Craig Wednesday, 12 Jun 2019 at 05:51 pm new

Nice. Could stare at it for hours.

zenagain Wednesday, 12 Jun 2019 at 06:08 pm new

Wow! That is a brilliant shot Craig.

mattlock Wednesday, 12 Jun 2019 at 09:04 pm new

It's called a "quarter moon" VJ. One quarter through the cycle. I love semantics.

Craig Wednesday, 12 Jun 2019 at 10:32 pm new

Haha Matt! Thanks Zen

Great to see that guys like this exist - I'd call him a visionary but the whole scenario's too obvious to use that word.
So we can figure that we'll get there eventually with a rejection of fossil fuels but will it be a matter of too little too late.
And unfortunately it doesn't really address the problem that our political system is quite broken.

Blowin Saturday, 15 Jun 2019 at 10:35 am new

So heavy that the government can be an impediment to a better nation and a better world.

Laurie McGinness Saturday, 15 Jun 2019 at 11:48 am new

The good news is that the technology already exists and the economics increasingly favour renewables. In those circumstances the government should be irrelevant.

AndyM Saturday, 15 Jun 2019 at 12:01 pm new

Considering that this is a good news thread, I cheerily agree with your first sentence Lozza!

indo-dreaming Saturday, 15 Jun 2019 at 01:21 pm new

Some more good news on the topic, per capita we have the highest uptake of roof top solar in the world almost certainly a result of government run incentives.

We have about 100 wind farms and sure many more to come, big solar farms getting built and more planned, ironically only the other week one of the biggest in Australia constructed by Adani just went onto the gird, but no one mentions this just the other Adani project.

We are on track at current rates to hit as high as 78% renewables by 2030

If it wasn't for our high immigration rates that keep moving the bar causing us to need more energy, things would be looking even better.

I guess this is good news and quite a surprise.

NASA Says Earth Is Greener Today Than 20 Years Ago Thanks To China, India
NASA has some good news, the world is a greener place today than it was 20 years ago. What prompted the change? Well, it appears China and India can take the majority of the credit.

In contrast to the perception of China and India's willingness to overexploit land, water and resources for economic gain, the countries are responsible for the largest greening of the planet in the past two decades. The two most populous countries have implemented ambitious tree planting programs and scaled up their implementation and technology around agriculture.

Good news = Had the operation on my eye yesterday. From virtual blindness to very decent vision.

Was a revelation taking the patch off today. Such amazing colours !

A few little twerks going on on the periphery and some weird light flashes when the source of light is at an acute angle , but the improvement is so significant that these are minor issues.

Even a bit of magnification going down which gives ita bit of a Steve Austin vibe.

No surfing for two weeks ! I don’t care. It’s gong to be freezing cold and maybe even raining steadily . So it’ll be comfort zone , good food and chill out watching daily replays of the Brazzo Pro Claim Fest.

Probably put on a few well earned kilos in the duration. Get a nice winter coat happening.

Good times.

Craig Wednesday, 19 Jun 2019 at 05:32 pm new

Great news Blowin! And not too long recovery time, re surf I think you will miss a bit ;)

Blowin Wednesday, 19 Jun 2019 at 05:36 pm new

I’ll come home strong in the back end of winter.

Assuming I’m still able to fit in my wettie.

freeride76 Thursday, 20 Jun 2019 at 06:11 am new

what was the operation for Blowin?

Blowin Thursday, 20 Jun 2019 at 08:16 am new

Cataract on my right eye.

Perfect vision till a three day bender on wet season Indo glassy perfection cooked my eyeballs . You know those days when the midday sun is getting reflected off the mirror surface of a windless Indo day ?

Full sunburnt eyeballs. I’ve had it before, but not that badly . A couple of days away from the sun and the grainy feeling left my eyes but my vision started to blur in my right eye. Within three days my sight was reduced to undefined blobs of pale colour .

factotum Thursday, 20 Jun 2019 at 09:38 am new

So how long have you been one-eyed? Years?

Blowin Thursday, 20 Jun 2019 at 09:54 am new

2 1/2 years if you are genuinely interested.

zenagain Thursday, 20 Jun 2019 at 04:05 pm new

I've been legally blind in my left eye from birth- can only see light and colour but no definition. Hasn't really hindered me, still played footy and other ball sports ok. The only time it really annoys me is when you get those grey on grey sessions on dusk. I can't see the waves until they're almost on top of me.

Also, after battling this recurrent ear infection for the last decade, my doc confirmed a 50% loss of hearing in my right ear.

So, basically half blind and half deaf.

At least I still have my looks.

GuySmiley Thursday, 20 Jun 2019 at 05:27 pm new

Not to worry zen lots of voters in AU just proved they are fully deaf, dumb and blind.
