Melb's wave pond

Ted from the moon started the topic in Wednesday, 1 Jan 2020 at 02:41 pm

After some feedback on the pool. I am contemplating heading down to do a strike mission for a few days. Who has surfed it? Would you recommend doing back to back sessions or have an hour off in between? Is it easy to do an hour on the left then the right immediately after? How knackered are you after 3 sessions in a morning? What are the evening sessions like? Thanks.

Bnkref Monday, 13 Jan 2020 at 12:54 pm

FR, if you're not FIFO on the day, there'll be decent (ocean) waves Wed morning.

Stok Monday, 13 Jan 2020 at 01:23 pm

Surfed last night in a wettie vest and shorts, got a bit chilly by the end. Booked in again tomorrow night, should be nice and warm by then.

Blowin Monday, 13 Jan 2020 at 01:28 pm

The return business is saying a lot about the place.

shoredump Monday, 13 Jan 2020 at 03:26 pm

The intermediate option has gone today from my time slot. So totally sold out as advanced. Didn’t get a reply. Im now keen again, should be fun

brucebruce Monday, 13 Jan 2020 at 06:03 pm

Hi Guys, Thanks for all the info in this thread!
I am heading to the pool Thursday/Friday, anyone know how their board hire system works and what kind of boards they have? I have tried calling/emails with no luck.
cheers

jonno Monday, 13 Jan 2020 at 09:05 pm

Had a fun 6pm advanced session tonight, some legit barrels, packed out crowd, would have been 16-18 surfers but still got enough waves.
For the Gary G stalkers, all session photos are up at https://surfchimp.melbourne/
100% worth it, waves vary alot, some dredgy sections where you know you have chosen incorrectly by going for a turn.

Blowin Monday, 13 Jan 2020 at 09:51 pm

Fucks sake...I’m not going there purely for the harsh reality of the photographer.

Christ, they’re like the bastard child photo of a pisshead on the big drop at Waterbomb x the worst surf shot your disinterested missus ever took .

Those shots would make Slater look like a gimp.

mickseq Monday, 13 Jan 2020 at 10:27 pm

Hey johnnno, what’s the size and tube time on the barrel sets? And is it 18 surfers aside?

jonno Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 06:48 am

Hey mate prob about a 3s barrel. 18 surfers aside. Waves come in a 10 wave set. Definitely better to get it with a few less people

udo Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 06:55 am

Freerides heat is on soon.

The thick thick smoke haze this morning can not be good for you.
Respiratory physician on the radio said outdoor tradies should be working in masks.
Could we see the masked surfer of the Tulla Tub?
Just glad I'm not booked in for today.

Gary G Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 08:31 am

Doggy, whilst Gary believes that there’s a little piece of Gary up inside all of us (some more than others),

These are not the Garys you’re looking for

lostdoggy Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 09:28 am

Turns out it’s Rimmer from red dwarf.

Gary G Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 09:39 am

Amazing likeness!

zenagain Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 10:30 am

I always pictured Gary kinda like Fabio but more oiled up.

But I dont want to know what Gary looks like, it would evoke the same feelings in me when I see a tiger on a chain or a caged peacock. Some wild animals just can't be tamed.

Gary G Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 10:57 am

Gary wonders how FR is going in the haze today.

Gary and the SN crew surely haven't anticipated the results of a pool test this side of schoolies week for quite some time

brucebruce Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 11:06 am

pretty sure I just spotted him in the 10am intermediate right session photos . Funny one to start out in for a goofy.

brucebruce Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 11:12 am

sorry, 9am

Blowin Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 11:12 am

Where can you see the photos ?

Gary G Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 11:15 am
brucebruce Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 11:27 am

now you can see him shredding the 10am left session.

zenagain Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 04:26 pm

Gary's a switch-footing child soft boarder?!

Well I never...

velocityjohnno Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 12:10 pm

I think it's better if Gary remains a man of mystery.

Gary G Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 12:47 pm

Never meet your idols.

AndyM Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 01:17 pm

FR - unmistakable with the hat and goatee

simba Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 02:12 pm

White helmet ?.......

Timothy Burgess Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 02:50 pm

Hi BruceBruce,

Checked out the boards yesterday. Didn't hire but had a good look. It's a very good setup.

There are JS / Hayden shapes / Pyzel / ChannelIslands that I saw. Various models. Not all sizes.

Apparently you can't reserve an exact size/board for a 2hr slot which costs $15+damage/breakage if you do so.

But alot of boards to choose from.

Pic here of the JS selection:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/Wr4r1ZMGbGVj4fr37

Hope that helps.
Cheers. T

Craig Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 02:56 pm

So you have to pay if you break the board??

shoredump Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 03:03 pm

$15 for 2hrs is good
Waco was about 45AUD from memory for 1hr

Timothy Burgess Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 03:05 pm

Correct. I didn't read full details but I think $500-$700 depending on board. Still cheaper than if you break your own board.

I rode my 6.0 JS FMN yesterday, pin, loved it (I'm 5'10, 72kg).

Went way better than my Monsta which I broke on open day. Extra rocker I think goes very well in advanced mode

Craig Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 03:23 pm

Usually hire equipment, the user isn't liable for breakage, unless on purpose, reckless etc.

I know boards are expensive, but wow that'd be a huge hit if you broke one!

AndyM Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 03:33 pm

Black bucket hat Simba.

simba Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 03:45 pm

yeah i know ....just stirrin

lostdoggy Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 03:49 pm

Did you get stitched up with the intermediate setting too FR?
Looks like they beefed it up in the sessions not long after.

AndyM Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 04:00 pm

Haha, white helmet would be an interesting look.

brucebruce Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 04:36 pm

@ Timothy, Thanks for the info! big help.
Learning more from this thread and stalking surfchimp online than from urbansurf, who for all intensive purposes seem to be uncontactable.

zenagain Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 05:00 pm

bruce bruce, mate- i don't wanna come across as some idiom nazi but if you're gonna use it, use the right one. Ok, for the record, it's "for all intents and purposes". Remember that and you won't have a mutly like me correct you ever again.

As an aside, supremely jealous of those sampling the wavepool.

brucebruce Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 05:30 pm

haha, funny thing was I actually knew that was wrong as I typed it but to be honest I do say it that way sometimes so I thought I might as well own it.
Any way good work on the correction and putting a stop to the bastardisation of the English language, you really nipped it in the butt.)

zenagain Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 05:34 pm

ha ha- you won't get me twice though.

kaiser Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 06:38 pm

I would of said something as well but your too quick and beat me too it.
He he...

truebluebasher Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 08:04 pm

Congrats to Swellnet Tulla Tubbies, now an official Surf Victoria stunt troupe.
Home Team must invite & compete freely against 22 clubs at home Pool break
That's a huge free handout for Host Club & Goldie surfers will come to yer rescue.

Victorian territory of Gold Coast surfers are able to compete for any Vic Team.
We choose to surf for swellnet Tulla Tubbies...no reason in particular.
In fact Gold Ticket obligates Vicco's to pick up Goldie team mates from the Airport.
On account that Goldie mates have been obliging likewise for a million years now!

Just checking, Tub deal covers SVGC athletes free travel & XXXX Tab for 22 comps!
tbb won't judge any posh Viccos - too stuck up, to billet his battery of basherz.

freeride76 Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 08:05 pm

fucking cooked.
42 waves in the tub.
then came home and surfed the local pumping and got the half century.

zenagain Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 08:18 pm

Did you have fun Freeride?

kaiser Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 08:30 pm

FR, looked like you were on rental boards. Did you opt for them even though you took some, or did you arrive with none?
Seems volume may be beneficial?

Westofthelake Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 09:14 pm

haha @Zen "ha ha- you won't get me twice though"

Are you sure?

brucebruce said "....Any way good work on the correction and putting a stop to the bastardisation of the English language, you really nipped it in the butt."

Correct me if I wrong, but isn't it "nipped it in the bud"? :)

Anyways, the TullaTub sounds and looks fun.
Might get there one day.
Hopefully it will still be operating......

zenagain Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 09:53 pm

Don't worry Westie, I saw that. I reckon brucex2 was fucking with me, hence why I didn't bite.

Now, we just need to tidy up Kaisers grammar and we can all get back to hearing from the tub bandits.

vascectomy-blo… Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 10:00 pm

Shit first it's all about climate change arguments and now call outs when some poor chump gets a saying wrong.... It's a doggy dog world on swellnet.

Westofthelake Tuesday, 14 Jan 2020 at 10:23 pm

haha come on VB you know there's more to Swellnet than just gramma and cliamte chaneg....actually for want of a better word, the depth and breadth of topics could be described as 'unprecedented'... ..or
bizarre,
extraordinary,
fantastic,
miraculous,
new,
remarkable,
singular,
uncommon,
unheard-of,
unique,
unparalleled,
or
unrivaled.

etc.

All depends upon your point of view.

But seriously, where's those pics of the beast mode barrels.?
